Sandbags, 2wd, and snow

I'm in the process of looking for a deal for a 4x4 4runner that would be a fairly comparable swap, but until then, I've heard sandbags can help alot with getting traction in the snow? How many should I put in my trunk and where is a good place to get them? Thanks.

My dad uses sandbags in the truck bed of his Tundra due to the lack of weight back there. I used to use 4 75lb lead blocks in my Titan and lined them up over the rear axle. Ive never heard of sandbags being used in SUV's but im sure its been done! I would just stuff alot of crap in the back for added weight.

I hate to say it but besides rear studs, the next best option is chains! :redbrick:

Thanks for the response! I ended up getting 4x 60lb bags for a total of $10 at lowes and it actually seemed to help out quite a bit.

I have chains but it's an inconvenience, because once I get on the main roads they are't necessary. Missoula refuses to plow the residential streets, so my only real problem is the area right around my house haha.

You can also try dropping the tire pressure a bit. 5psi made a big difference on my new hankooks on the snow and ice.

I run 4x60lbs bags of tub sand in my 97 4x4 pathfinder and the same in my 73 IH scout 4x4. Weight always helps with traction in any 4x4. I plan to get a few bages of tube sand for the new 4runner also.
