Sanity Check: O2 Sensor Replacement

'03 V6 Limited

CEL, VSC, TRAC lights came on, so I bought an OBD-II WiFi dongle that pairs with Dash Command on iPhone.

Pulled code: P0156 O2 Sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 2)

Looked up that Bank 2 is Cyl 2 aka Driver side, and Sensor 2 is after the cat.

Ordered this:

DENSO (234-4804) Oxygen Sensor


Did I order the right sensor type?

Any additional tips for install?
-is it accessible without jacking up?
-do I actually need a O2 sensor socket?
-should I clear code before/after or wait and see if it goes away?

After the cat is easy, unscrew it and replace with the new. Ten minute job unless you have rust to deal with and easily accessible without lifting.

My experience was that w/o clearing the codes it stays in the memory and comes back after replacing. Not everyone has this happen but it drove me buggy.

It's probably a 23mm open end wrench you'll need. And use anti-seize on the threads before you put it in. The little dab they put on there from the factory isn't worth it.

Thanks for the replies. Is it going to be 23mm? or 22mm/7/8"? Some googling seems like it may be 22mm

I only nitpick because I have a 22mm open end wrench, but would have to buy a 23mm.

You could be right, man. I've got three vehicles that all use 23mm, but I'm sure there are other sizes out there. I'd go with what your searches are showing you. Or, you can wait to pick up the new sensor and take it to the store to match up the size of the wrench you'll need.

Yeah I'll check tonight, just wanted to have all tools in place because tomorrow is going to be a major work day.

-Brake pads & rotors all the way around
-Polishing headlights
-O2 sensor
-Serpentine Belt
-Diff fluid change

Going to have to be really efficient!
