I would go more towards the axle, so that it is pointed down.

Just know that if you cut it that far back your going to be elimination the mounting point toward the end of the exhaust. Then, the vibrations will make the exhaust chatter against your frame cus nothing is holding it. Mine has this problem, and it's annoying sometimes.

Working on some cover for the rear bumper.

got a nice piece of oak from my dads work. stained it a nice red to blend in a bit better.
