Satellite radio question?

Hello,

I am about to install a delphi satellite XM radio in my 4runner. I have researched this and found out that with the 6disk cd changer you can't hook it up to your radio controls on the steering wheel. Apparantly on the single disk you can b/c there is an outlet or something. The 6disk cd changer uses that outlet from what I have gathered. So my question is is there like an adaptor or something to allow you to be able to hook a Delphi XM satellite radio to the steering wheel controls when you have the 6disk?

Thanks

I have had the Delphi system in my 04 for a while now. I have the single disc cd. You CANNOT run the xm to work with the steering wheel controls. I wish you could. The last I heard a compnay called Blitzsafe is working on that problem. I talked to them about a month ago. If you talk to them, let me know where they stand. Hope this helps you in any way.

Even with the single CD player, you cannot control the Delphi system. Toyo is right, blitzsafe is working on that problem, but it is taking them forever. I am waiting for one for my Scion HU.

steering wheel controls

My wife had ours intalled, with the fm modulator, and swears that she can control the volume on the Delphi xm radio with the steering wheel controls.
I can't see exactly how the installation was accomplished becasue I'm not due to rotate out of Afghanistan until some time next month.
Once I find out how it was done, I will keep ya all posted.

Antennae

Here is where the installer put the antennae.
on the previous picture, the wire that you can see next to the xm radio is from the radar detector.

Talk about perfect timing, I have been researching this for the past few days and tested someone that has that model (view pic above) in their car with the same setup. The reason she can control the volume because it works through the radio using station 87.5. Not knowing your wife or being in her car, I would assume she has that very same setup.

I do think that is how she is able to control the volume.
I/We did allot of research on this xm radio thingy, and she really wanted it. She found a heck of a deal on Ebay. Purchased the xm radio receiver, car kit, fm modulator, and boom box for $216.00
Not a bad deal, especially when you find out that through best buy, without the boom box, comes to about $245.00

I attached the link to the place she picked it up, but I can't remember where it is. Let me know if you need it, and I will go a hunting.
cheers

Hey guys,

I finally got it installed. I too got the radio, car kit, and fm modulator from amazon.com. I had it installed in the same place on the dash as in the pictures above. The antenna is forward of the sunroof on mine. total for everything was right around $300.

You can't control the channels with the steering wheel, but you can control the volume. So far its pretty sweet.

I agree, the device is really sweet. My wife said that it's the best. Changing channels is a problem though, unless you have a passenger/navigator/spouse like I do to take care of that small issue on those long distance drives. :girl:
