Status Update: We've had some back and forth emails and BPF has agreed to start the trials on fabricating Satoshi grills for our 4th Gens *cheers*
As far as the email goes, they'll start test fabbing on an OEM grill and "see what they can come up with" in the next few months. Pricing WAS mentioned, but it's still up in the air as it's a completely new project for them to undertake. My guess is their grills are somewhat pricey, so a large groupbuy should lower it to an affordable cost.

Maybe. But think cost versus effort here. You can spend $50 and DIY, or $400 for a little easier of a process? That's $350 towards a body lift, new tires, etc...

Look great but $375? Kind of steep, but I understand you have to make a profit.
06-09 Seems like a layup. The 03-05 appears like a bigger challenge to get it right.

The price may actually be worth it for those of us who are willing to upgrade our grills (03-05 -> 06+) instead of retrofitting the ones we have if they don't offer a model for our years, since we'd be paying a bit less for an OEM grill anyway.
Otherwise, completely agreed - 400$ USD for something purely aesthetic might be a bit much, especially considering the amount of DIY guides there are.

Hey Guys,
I'm Matt, I run BPF. This is what we have come up with. It is a fairly involved install very similar to our 07-09 Tundra grills. These grills have a very big bow making it difficult for a bent mesh to sit flat. This insert requires the outer edges to be cut and sanded in order to accept the mesh. The hood latch bracket also needs to be cut into 3 parts, the outer ends and the middle section for the hood latch. Overall, Im happy with the way it turned out. What do you guys think?
This is where I need some feedback. In order for the mesh to be consistent without cutting, hence having continuous lines, a custom hood latch bracket would need to be made, so that it would sit behind the mesh insert.
Right now were looking at the same price point as the 05-11 Tacoma inserts. Adding the custom bracket would probably add roughly $40 dollars to the cost. The above photos show the mesh cut around the OEM hood latch bracket. So, is it worth adding the custom hood latch bracket? Seeing that you guys are wanting to keep costs down? Or are you guys okay with the mesh being cut around it like the photos above? Another thing, as the oblong slots being in different positions on each grill. It would have to be trimmed around at the time of install for the best fitment. We're only going to offer one or the other, so whatever you guys prefer is what we'll do. I just completed my own version and I'll attest the the challenges of getting bent metal to conform to the cuves of the grill. In regards to the hood latch, I decided to cut the mesh around the hood latch and added a piece of rubber to give it finished look. I don't see a need for a custom latch, and based on peoples comments, an extra $40 will deter some people.
I also see in one of your photos that the top 'cutout' was not filled in. Is this only on the prototype or do you plan on keeping that area unfinished on your production pieces?
Either way, nice work and thank you for giving us another choice on grills.

Hey Matt, to get rid of those hard lines in the mesh insert I'm going to vote for a custom hood latch, $40 is $40, to me that's not enough to sway the price point for me to not buy your product. I think it looks a lot cleaner with a continuous mesh. However, will your grilles be offered in standard dark grey like the pictures above or will there be color match available? Option to add or customize lettering? Thanks for staying true to making grilles for our rigs. Hopefully everybody in this forum will see the progress.

I think you're right about the bracket. If taken the time to trim the mesh properly it would be really hard to tell it was even trimmed.
This was only our prototype but I didn't see the need to fill it in. Once installed on the truck it isn't noticeable.

At this time I don't see the benefit of spending more time designing a bracket. With the mesh being trimmed correctly at the time of install it really isn't noticeable. I can even include some edge trim to finish it off.
I will only be offering these as DIY kits. There isn't a way I could come close to the price point you guys are looking for. Just an OEM grill is $200 dollars plus the mesh, letting and time it takes. I would be losing money. There is more work involved installing this mesh over a standard flat mesh. I definitely feel that the aesthetics is worth it.
After trimming the bumper and the grill. We were able to install this grill onto an 05 4Runnner. I should have pictures soon. We did need to use a coat hanger wire to extend the hood latch rod.

Will do. I'll take photos of the install process. I'm planning (hoping) to do a floating Toyota logo. I love the floating TOYOTA for custom lifted 4Rs, but mine isn't. I think the floating logo with paint matched grill frame will work better for me.
