Saw the new Tundra at an autoshow today!

I went to an auto show in Omaha today an looked at the new Tundra.

That is one big damn truck. I actually liked the exterior styling a lot. I'm not the biggest fan of that big thing of chrome on the front but the side profile is awesome.

The interior was huge too. I didn't know what to think of it actually. It doesn't really flow together like the 4runner does. For example, I would have trouble reaching for the radio. There were a couple of open storage spaces as well. I think the designers had a little too much space to play with. Also it seemed like they tried to save a little money by putting a little more hard plastic than usual. Overall though, the inside is as nice as the competition.

I liked the Tundra from what I saw. It will be interesting to see how it sells.

Sure would like to see this V8 in the 4Runner though do you think this engine will be introduced in the 4th Gen or 5th Gen 4Runner or if even at all?

I would doubt that we'd see it in the 4R , unless they made a street machine 4R like jeeps hemi GC , or Trailblazer ss.

The Tundras at the show had the 5.7 V8. I am pretty sure from looking at it that the 5.7 would not fit in the 4runner. Again that Tundra is one big MF!

Also, I don't think the 4runner needs more power. The current 0-60 time is like 7.2 seconds I believe.

You can NEVER have too much power. You just have to know how and when to use it.

The only time you can have too much power is when you can spin tires from the apex of one turn to the braking zone of the next turn. Currently, my V8 4Runner can't do that.

On my way up to Sierra yesterday, I saw a truck carrier stopped along side of the highway. I saw the carrier, the looked over and recognized the distinct tail lights. It was full of Tundras. I saw regular cabs and DoubleCabs for sure, couldn't tell if there were any CrewMax passing by at 70mph. I wanted to beat the crowds and not deal with parking in an off site lot and shuttle into the resort, otherwise I would've turned around and got my camera phone for a few pics.

The '07 Tundra with the 5.7 is one bad @$$ truck.

It is a good looking truck. Interesting to see year end sales numbers.

As to engines, I would think they would slot the 5.7 liter as an alternative for the LandCruiser and Sequoia - not for the 4Runner.

I thought it was interesting that you could order a v-6 with the Tundra. I thought that all big trucks came with V-8s - guess not.

Although not many people *want* them, you can even get a V6 in your regular F-150 or Silverado, too.

I love my V8 , but personally I would not want a bigger engine,just no reason for it.

If I bought a Seq. or LC I would still opt for the 4.7.

I'll leave the 5.7 for the big trucks.............

Yep, I attended the same show man, from neb. city here...the tundra is pretty kewl. thinking of trading in my 99 tacoma for it but i have 2 more years on my sprt runner left...damn the payments!!!

I paid off my 2004 4runner a while back (I should have put that money in the stock market btw, but it was my first car), and it's very tempting to pull the trigger on a new car. I'm not going to do it for a while b/c my 4runner is an awesome vehicle and I know it's not going to break. I'll probably keep mine until the new 4runner comes out in 09 and either get that or a sports sedan.

I've been enjoying having the 4Runner paid off for quite a while (only took 11 months to pay it off). I will never buy a car again without paying cash for it.

Why sell it if it runs well and still looks good?? I just got over the whole 'want a new car' thing with the wife's car this year. We were looking at her aging '94 Integra GS-R and had thought about dropping the money on a new TSX. Instead of putting that money into a new car for her, we invested $15,000 into short-term investments and $8k into our Roth IRA's for this year. It's smarter to look ahead into the future than to worry about having the latest and greatest thing out there. We plan to make her car last us at least another two years and at that point we'll decide if it needs to be replaced or not. By that point we'll have owned it 6 years, which is not bad considering we only paid $7k for it and recouped another $3k after it got broken into and totaled and we rebuilt it ourselves. We'll have gotten 6 years of use out of a car that cost us a whole $4,000. It still drives great and looks quite good for a 13-year-old car. I see no reason to get rid of it.

Because we're all superficial who enjoy the respite from the impending earthquake, riot, tsunami, smog, gridlock, random violence, dumb drivers, global warming by being in a nice car every few years.

If I can drive my 4Runner as long as I drove my 97 Accord with 210,000 miles and if I can take on the payments, I will buy that sexy Crew Max 5.7L V8 Tundra. What a sexy car.

I saw the new Tundra at the Detroit Auto Show a couple of weeks ago. It may be a nice truck, but I was appalled by the low-rent interior: All gray synthetic mouse fur with acres of hard plastic. The panel fit wasn't the greatest, either. And this was a "Limited" trim model that they'd chosen to display at a major auto show! IMO, the interior was cheap, hideous, and absolutely a deal-breaker for me. Would I pay $35K+ for such a low-quality interior, never mind the truck's other virtues? No way!

I then moved on to the 4Runner, and had much the same reaction: Basically the same thing as our '03 (which is, itself, a cut below our '98's interior), but a couple of notches short in quality of materials and execution.

I'm concerned here - I've been a Toyota customer since 1969, and it seems Toyota has now utterly lost its compass and is letting the cost cutters hold sway, with no regard for the effect on product quality. There may yet be hope for the US auto industry if Toyota continues in this direction!

Interestingly, our local paper today headlined a story to the effect that Toyota is now paying its American non-union workers a higher hourly wage than the UAW-represented 'big three'. Perhaps here's the explanation!

I saw a blueish-gray '07 Tundra DoubleCab Monday morning, I think it was Slate Metallic. At first, I was thinking someone already bought one, which I thought wasn't on sale until February. But it had dealer tags (not the dealer name paper, but the metal plates that test editors have from DMV).

IMO my '03 interior is NOT a cut below the interior of the '97 I had. Matter a fact I think the '03 interior is an improvement over that of the '97.

Yeah, this is the second post about the interior that i've read in the last month or two. To anyone that thinks that the 4runner's interior is cheap should go look at a Ford Explorer or a Honda Pilot. Or pretty much any vehicle made by GM. The 4runner's interior is very well made with high quality materials.
