... what parts would you grab?

Just thought it might be nice to compile a list of obvious junkyard pull items.

Depends on the year and if it's 4wd. I've run across several 3rd gens in parts yards and often pull the roof rack and flares for resale. If it's 01-02 get the taillights, center console and headlights. CV's are good to have and e-lockers are tough to come by.

Obviously, but what sort of items that regularly fail are good to stock up on?

Off the top of my head, I'd probably grab...
- door check straps (which fail early and are stupidly expensive)
- power window motors
- power window switches
- fog light/accessory switches
- sway bar end links (maybe?)

I'm guessing the window motors are shared with lots of Toyota cars of the same years. It was like that with my first gen at least
 
I just saw my first 3rd gen in a junkyard a few days ago. Interior was trashed though and it had over 350,000 miles so not much left was good. E locker was gone already.
 
depending on miles I'd get the steering rack and starter. Depending on year model 99+ I'd get the headlights. 01+ get the tail lights. I myself grabbed a slip yoke last time I was out so I could rebuild the u-joint and have as a spare. I'd also look at other things you could flip by selling for a small profit. I could use a passenger side 99+ headlight that's in good shape. The first thing I check if it's 4wd I look for that elocker motor. I wouldn't mind having a spare!

Roof rack
Sr5 wide flares
96 grills
Clean front door panels especially armrests
Center console armrest uncracked
Clean cargo carpet
Clock
99+ center console
Perfect dashpad
 
All of the belts and gaskets :confused:.

I don't know, maybe if it had an e-locker I'd take the whole rear end out. I'd also look for aftermarket stuff under the hood.
 
:wtf: Things go wrong with these trucks?

It's stupid but for me, I'd grab an oh sh!t handle so I can put one above the drivers head.
 
On top of all the above mentioned, I'd get the rear hatch struts if they're still good. Mine went out and I replaced them with Monroe MaxLifts.....which SUCK. Wish I had stock ones...but they're like $150+ for a pair.

There not as easy as putting it on. You have to do a Hatch swap. The bolts that hold the wing on go into the medal hatch and the back of the nuts are in the medal on the hatch so it will not come flying off on you.

Like I said I was going to do this but after taking it apart I was like well hell.


Your hatch has to have had one before.

Right now, I would probably look for the A/C controller on limited 4runner because mine is acting up, has a mind of its own. They are so hard to find though.
