Yesterday I traded my 1996 4Runner on a 2016 Tundra TRD Pro.

It's been a good 5 years, I never needed to worry about it starting and it taught me a lot about being a mechanic. But I took my first big boy job after getting my degree and I can no longer afford to have my daily driver down for the time it takes me to fix it. I would have kept it as a weekend toy if it weren't for the cigarette smell that I have never been able to get out (especially in the Mississippi summers).

I will probably still lurk. But until I get a weekend toy (it's a toss up between another 3rd Gen 4Runner or a similar age Tacoma), I will say goodby and keep the slick side down.

Dam you....and by dam you I mean congrats. I am having this exact internal debate RIGHT NOW. I finally am to a point in my life that I am financially secure enough to get a Tundra of my choice. But will certainly have to finance it. Here is the problem that makes it tough to validate to myself and more so my wife. My 97 DD w/ 175k that I have had for over 8 years runs perfect, rarely needs work (except mods by choice or routine stuff), looks AMAZING, and has been paid off from day 1. Every time I get near a Tundra however I start to get that itch.... :ybrick:

I have had a big boy job for 17 years and I still can't afford a new Tundra. Damn ex wife. Before you walk down the aisle make sure she is the one or have a solid prenup or that pretty truck could be just a memory.

I had a second gen all through high school and college. Got my first big boy job and bought a top of the line tacoma. It was nice, but it just wasn't the same love I'd had with my 4runner. Ended up selling it for a 3rd Gen. It's hard for me to own something new though, I like being able to crawl in covered in dirt and mud.

Congrats though! I love that new color! If I had to go back to a truck it would most definitely be a tundra in lieu of a tacoma. Cheers!

Yep, I weighed that. In Mississippi it doesn't really matter, mud finds its way in regardless (at least in the places I tend to frequent). Plus I probably wont replace the truck for at least 10 years. So I decided to buy the truck I wanted (especially since used Tundras are nearly the price of new ones, and the new one I can ensure the maintenance is done on time)

My ideal next vehicle is a 2016 Tundra Crew Cab Limited, in Magnetic Gray metallic. Unfortunately I have to wait a few years (and the new tundra might be out by then) because the fiance gets a new car first.

I think i will probably keep the 4runner as a backup/spare car, because at that point it won't be worth more than a few thousand.

I dont hate chrome as other people on here do but the new Tundra grills are too much. They look better in Black IMO.

The only reason I didn't keep the T4R was a previous owner smoked in it. I have washed, scrubbed, deodorized the interior and could get the smell out. I even tried the ozone treatment that used car dealers use, tried it three times. Still didn't get the smell out.

It was so bad I was getting nicotine highs just from driving to/from work. I decided it wasn't worth stripping the entire interior to bare steel and replacing it with brand new everything.

My brother bought a f150 from a couple in 2005. The interior smelled like hay. He went as far as to replace the carpet and headliner, we steam cleaned the seats and took apart the dash, but alas it still smelled like hay.

It had low miles on it and eventually sold it to a farmer, selling it for more money than he paid for it a year earlier.
