SC Dream come true???

So a guy I go to church with has a SC'd Tacoma, 3.4L, 5 speed and hates the SC... I offered to buy it from him and give him my intake manifold etc... I'm clueless about tuning and have drooled over all of the tech talk in SC threads all over the web. Someone help me out and point me in the direction of what it would take to get these things swapped... I beleive his was a factory installed SC, (has badges)... And my truck is an automatic... I get lost in tons of the fuel upgrades, valve body talk, and piggy back ECU jargon... Help me make this dream come true!

Dude im not much help but just wanting to give advice..I passed on a S/C a few months ago(hell of a deal) because theres so much involved and its soooo expensive to do it right and you wanna do it right because your putting your motor at risk. The fuel upgrades were going to be more expensive for me to buy than the supercharger then installing and tuning are another thing.

the supercharger is usually the cheapest item to get out of all the things needed to safely run one with reliabilty and longevity in mind. I got a supercharger for an amazing deal, and have been slowly gathering all the parts needed in addition to just the blower itself (I had one and sold it before I installed it, and regret doing that everyday until I found this another one). I have done a lot of research on trying to do it right and with a budget in mind for the past couple weeks. The fuel and transmission upgrades along with the time it takes to tune it properly will more then likely deter most people from purchasing one, but when it's dialed in properly, it really makes the truck scoot!

If you can get it for a good deal and be patient with finding all the other parts needed, go for it. I have the final parts coming in this week for mine after 2 months of searching.

Thats what I'm doing... The guy said like 200 bucks and my stock intake and I could have the SC. So I can't really pass up on that... I'm figuring around $1k for the 7th injector kit, I just don't know about the transmission upgrades...

you will need a pile of parts to get it working right im thing maybe $2500 bucks ? or just sell it and pocket the cash

That's a great price for one, i paid the same for mine and then rebuilt it myself. Keep searching for that fuel upgrade. Instead of getting the 7th injector kit, i chose to go with supra injectors and shimming the transmission actuators. With all the parts i have now, i'm right at $600. That includes, the supercharger, new belt, coupler and oil, idler pulley, throttle body gasket, check-valve, vacuum hoses, piggy-back controller, injectors, spark plugs, thermostat, and shims for the tranny. Only other things i'll get are a smaller pulley and gauges (wideband A/F, boost, and EGT) to keep tabs on everything, but that should still keep me under $1k still. I'm thinking this should keep a smile on my face for a while. I'll eventually upgrade the headers and have a full custom exhaust installed which should have it put out well over 300+hp after another tune

So I am no where near mechanically or technically inclined to piece together a kit like you have... Is the consensus still that URD's 7th injector kit is the best way to go for a DD / weekend warrior ride? I won't be drag racing every weekend nor will I be WOT everywhere I go... I just want the extra ponies to turn my 35's down the hiway... I've read and read until my brain feels like it is going to melt... But I know that doing it right the first time, will save my butt in the end! Thanks for the help guys!

Yes, the 7th injector kit is one of the most popular kits to keep your engine safe. It will give you extra horsepower after the tune, but it's mainly to help keep away the dreaded ping. Mines a DD and I take it offroad every now and then too and that's what i based my build-up around. Pretty much half my list was rebuilding/replacing the parts that come standard with a supercharger.

I would definetly keep reading up on what you need. I've been reading up on it for roughly 6-8 months now. Search for gadget's or speedy's 4runner on yotatech. 2 great reads that has helped me in gathering the right parts needed.

wont the s/c like headers and a 2.5'' exhaust a little better ?

yeah, headers and a exhaust will help any engine that is blown. I was going to do that last sine i've heard of many horror stories of installing the headers. So much so that i've heard many shops won't even install them because it's such a hassle.

I've already upgraded to duals, 18" magnaflow and no cat... No smog laws in Alabama, or else no one cares about them... Also have deckplate k&n drop in and ISR done too...

Not to deter you, but when I thought about putting on a S/C the thing that I disliked the most was that I was going to have to pay for premium fuel all the time and I would also be using more fuel then I do now!

...I would also be using more fuel then I do now!

They make the engine more fuel efficent and give better mpg's. But most people don't see better mpg because they enjoy the new found power of the SC and end up hitting the gas harder.

What size bl you go with? Ive got a 1 inch at the house I think im going to install. Whatkind of 35's? Not trying to hijack you can PM me if you want.

Duratracs again, and I went with 2" BL... Will be running wheeel spacers as soon as I can grab some up...

For what it's worth, I have been running the 1st gen supercharger since the truck was came off the boat. Of course that means it was dealer installed before any of the fuel or tranny issues were known.
That said, I have been running the truck with no fuel or tranny upgrades and stock temp Denso plugs for ten years and been running on regular gas since the price of fuel went nutty around 2003.
My truck only VERY VERY rarely pings and when it does, I back off the throttle. Ping stops. Of course, I don't drive like I did when I was in my 20's (like a maniac).
I am not trying to say that my engine is running at peak efficiency and all you have read is bunk. No, what I am saying is that I believe my knock sensors back off the timing a good bit to deal with the ping and that my engine seems to be running safely in a slightly (or greatly) detuned mode. I know this since my recent A/F ratio sensor issues caused my to reset the computer several times during my diagnosis and repair. Every time I reset the computer to the default settings, the truck fires up and runs extremely well for a short time until the calibrations back off and settle into a safer mode.
The point I am trying to make is that you (and Haddix) should not shy away from a cheap supercharger opportunity if you just want to gain an extra 50 hp or so for daily driving enjoyment. If you want to drag race your 10 year old truck, than maybe you need the fuel and tranny upgrades right away.
Otherwise, slap on the blower and purchase the 7th injector kit when you can afford it and need the additional 50hp.

Thanks for the insight, I'm not really worried about losing the SC, the guy was actually excited that I wanted it. I'm just going to save up some money and hopefully find a shop to do the swap and 7th kit for me... I doubt i'll do the VB deal, as I don't drive it like a racecar...
