Scangauage for sale today on Amazon

I already have one of these, but I noticed that it's on sale today on amazon.com for like $35 less than normal. I use mine a lot, and figure there are probably some folks in the market for one too.

There are some cheaper options, but as far as I know none of them can read the ATF temp. If you have an auto tranny, that will be one of the big perks of using this. If you don't need/care about that metric, there are a couple around the $60 range. I think they even make some apps for phones that can do the same thing if you have the right cable.

Keep in mind the ATF temp is an "X-gauge" meaning you have to manually enter the code to make that guage show up. It's floating around here and on yotatech in a couple places.

If you already have an Android phone, the combination of a bluetooth OBDII dongle and the Torque Torque — OBD2 Performance and Diagnostics for your Vehicle app from the Android market will be cheaper than the ScangaugeII. And it will read and display transmission temperature on a '99 4Runner.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. I'm still living in the past (Windows Mobile 6.5), but most likely Android will be the platform of choice when I decide to grow up.

I have also heard of the Android setup. But I don't want to have to hook my phone to it every time. I would want something that is dedicated and can be mounted on top of my steering column and stay there.

Yes, the ELM327 chip is basically what everybody seems to use for that.

However, I do like the Scanguage from the op becuase you could set it on your instrument cluster for it to "always be there" without needing to pull the phone out and link up the bluetooth/etc.

It's not too hard if you have a car dock for your phone. I just clip the phone in, it goes into car dock mode and charges while it's in there, click on Torque, and it connects automatically via bluetooth. Or, if I want mapping, place search, turn-by-turn GPS navigation, or Pandora streaming, I can do that too. Try those with a Scangauge lol!

The Ultra Gauge is excellent for the $69 price (including shipping). The '96-'98 don't have the AT sensor anyway so the UG does everything else - coolant/engine temp, MPG, etc... All in all it shows 33 different gauges. Not a bad gadget for the price...
