Cool - so if I placed the tweeters in the dash right next to the door, and the drivers in the door down by my foot, and the crossover somewhere relatively in the middle (like hidden in the kickpanels), I'd be solid? Or do I want them closer than that?
Ideally you want them on the same plane--facing the same direction, at the same angle. You want the tweeters catching as much of BOTH ears as possible (right tweet to right ears, left to left ears--remember "stereo" effect), angling across the cab--the dash may aim them too much straight at the face. The Yota's door panels are relatively short, so with both speakers on the panel, both the separation and the angles are taken care of. You can mount the crossover anywhere, but if it's small enough, it's usually best to hide it behind the door panel in some cut-out area--that way there's only one set of wires passing through the door jamb. Another option for speaker placement is using kick panel mounts--these low-mounted spots have great angles to the ears, and keep the speakers both close together and out of the doors, but they're vulnerable to getting kicked and muddy, plus take up foot space. Just another possibility. I've used both designs, and both sounded good, but I made a mess of the kick panels with my boots, so beware.
