Um hi. I installed my T1806 today. It didn't take very long at all. Maybe an hour and a half. Anyway, the sound was much better than stock. I was pleased with the new results, especially when I turned the Bass up to car thumpin' '5' setting. (please note, I am not at all serious about my 'car thumpin' comment. It looks great and it sounded better, I was pleased... that is until I discovered the SSP button. That made the sound quality go from 'better than the stock HU' to 'freakin amazing'. Seriously, that setting blew my expectations out of the water. VERY happy with my purchase. And for 100 bucks you can't really go wrong if you like the stock look and you want great sound from your paper speakers!!! :bigok:

Here are some night pics, which is when this unit looks the best IMO.
Top is what my default is, the other 2 pics are colors I think look cool too, although the third no one will ever see with me driving, per man law. And the tangerine color is a perfect match, and looks good as well!

Have you tried changing the Scion car model setting? Which one do you like if you have? If you haven't, then you're in for another surprise! :awais:
Just hold down the SSP button for a few seconds, then change through the models with one of the sets of up and down buttons (or maybe it was the station 1-6 buttons, I can't recall).
It has Tc, Xa, and Xb. The Tc setting sucks, but Xa and Xb are pretty good. Xb has a lot of bass, and the highs are pulled back a little. Xa has the bass that the Xb setting does, but with the highs turned up more.
I like Xa for low volume, and Xb for high volume. SSP 'Feel' all the time.

My apologies everyone for asking a stupid question, but I'm a little confused on something, pertaining to the ipod stuff. I've read the progression of the this tread, tried to track the model years. How does the ipod hook up? Are the newer models "1808" equipted with a plug on the front that you plug the ipod into? Or do these new ones require a kit as well?
Also, when you say "control your ipod", are you saying I can skip around the songs on the ipod, with the buttons on the stereo? Even from the steering wheel too?
Man, I've got to say, for $100-$150 bucks, this sounds like a must-do upgrade! Just want to make sure I understand what I'm getting, and what you guys think is the best unit to get.

Don't apologize. The t1808 which is the one AustinTaco has pics up of, does have an Ipod button, but its hooked up by a series of cables behind the head unit itself. The main wire, you can pull from a junkyard, I believe all Scion TC's 06 and above have the wire regardless of the radio. You can either run it to your console or glove box. I don't know about the steering wheel controls, but if I don't see why it wouldn't. And if you get a model with the Ipod wire that you pull from a Scion in the junkyard, then yes, you can control it through the head unit. If you have one that is not Ipod ready, you can play it through the AUX feature, but you can't control it through the HU.
T1806 or T1808 are IPod ready. The new T1809, should be plug and play as well, but ISN'T cheap.

And I think the little hole that you plug it into in the front, is not on any of the Ipod ready models. That would be an aux port. Its the equivalent of using the car as a pair of headphones to your ipod. You can not control it through the head unit with an AUX.

Most of the newer Scion radios (T1806 and up I think) will directly control your iPod through the HU. However, you'll need an additional cable that plugs directly into the back of the HU and then into your iPod through the computer cable port. It will provide DC power to the iPod at the same time as well.
The info on the cable is in this thread. I linked you to one of the last pages that has info on the SC12235 iPod cable (look for my post near the end of the page). Read the last 4 or 5 pages of that thread and you'll be all set.
The more recent Scion HU's are a dang good deal. They have the potential for XM/Sirius satellite radio, iPod, and aux input all in the same HU.
edit: OK, Simple beat me to the post. You can also pull the cable out of a Scion from the junkyard, but it is in 3 pieces, and you have to make sure to get ALL 3. I think the ebay cable is easier, but they currently are not available. The T1807 is NOT iPod capable.

Thanks guys, this really helps! Judging by all the comments in this thread, and the others, it appears as long as I get an 06 or higher model, you really can't go wrong? Or is it like computers, where the lastest model is the best model? I see an 08' on ebay "i think". The sellers list the model year of car the radio came out of, but I can't quite understand where to find the model # itself in some of the pictures of the backside of the units. But, I can tell by button layout, matched to the photos on here, of what's what. Simple: your's is the 06' model, right? Which looks sweet! But I'm a little confused on the ones on ebay that say they're also the 06' model, but only have one knob in the center of the unit. I can easily tell AustinTaco's model though, with the rectangular layout of buttons.
Also, am I reading this right, that you can't adjust the bass and treble specifically? You're limited to preset modes, across all models?
What about the Ipod Nano? Is there an adaptor for the nano connector size?

It's totally worth it, nc211. The bass and treble, balance and fade are all adjustable, but there's an SSP button that sets for "Neutral", "Hear", and "Feel", so set it to "Hear" and that's all you need. I bought the iPod cable from the guy everyone talks about on Ebay. Here's my post about it:

Thanks RichAA, I greatly appreciate the reply! I'm looking forward to this upgrade! The stereos in the old Lexus LS400's are made by Pioneer as well, and they simply rock! I had a 95' LS prior to the 4runner, and that stereo amazed me, even 12 later. So, I'm figuring these are probably close to the same internally. If I've read some of the labels correctly, my stock model is made by Fujistu....they should really stick to computers...
About 10 years ago I was trying to replace my home speakers set up. I had Infinity bookshelf speakers (tweeter and 5 1/4 woofer) that just didn't have the punch I wanted. I bought some tower Klipse, didn't like them, took them back. I tried Polk, didn't like them either. I tried a few different types, none had what I was after. Then my buddy said, and I quote "why don't you just go buy a Pioneer subwoofer and keep your Infinitys?" I said "Pioneer? Why would I do that if I didn't like Klipse/Polks/Kenwoods, etc.., that I've tried already?" He said, and again I quote "because a million rednecks can't be wrong."
To this day, I still have that 10 in' sub, wired up with my Infinity surroundsound speakers, and couldn't be happier. I call it "Rambo", and it lives in a closet in the den. It even survived a direct lightening strike to the house a few years ago, which took out just about everything that was plugged in. He was right.... I love Pioneer.

Mine is the 06 model. The way I heard it is, the 3 knob version is superior version to the one knob version. Basically since I believe they both put out the same wattage, the only difference is 2 extra knobs, and the ability to control your Ipod through the head unit, and charge it. You CAN adjust the bass and treble the same as you you do on your stock radio... but, frankly the SSP feature and the Car Mode feature makes it sound ass loads better.
Anyway, I finally finished today, I did some drilling and cutting so I can have the AUX port like 2k34r. It looks freakin clean, and professionally done.
Let us know how everything goes nc! And there is a T1808 right now in the classifieds.

Okie: I think they do have more power. From what I can gather, these Scion units have about 160 watts. I seriously doubt our stock units have that much. It's not surprising to me that Scion puts in good audio units, as those cars tend to be marketed towards a younger demographic, who like thier tunes! This is one of the best tricks I've ever heard of. I'm hoping my experience is the same as the others, and I notice the difference.

Well fellas, it ain't gonna' happen for me. I lost the ebay bid, apparently at the last second too "around 3:00 am". So, screw it. I don't have the time, nor the patience to mess with that sort of stuff, and not really willing to pay those rediculous "buy it now" prices. So, I'll just stick with my stock radio, and my tape player adaptor for my Ipod for a while. Hey, it is Toyota, so it ain't exactly all that bad to begin with! :
:Something fishy about this radio. I lost the bid at the last second, to a $71 bid. I started at $51, it sat for a week, then someone jumped in at $52 late last night, I jumped up to $60, and went to bed. Then at the last second, a 3rd bidder bought it at $71 and won. However, almost instantly, an exact match showed up for bidding, with the addition of the ipod cable. No reserve, supposedly "last guy said the same thing, but autobid up to $50". Below is the two descriptions. The first one was the original description for the one I lost. The second one is the new radio up now. The websites even look the same, same layout, lack of bells and whistles. This model is rare on ebay, as most of them on there are older models..... If you ask me, this is the same radio, and the seller used a different name to "buy" the radio and start over again, with hopes of getting more money. You tell me guys, see any similiarities in these two descriptions?

Nc211, sorry it's getting to be a hassle. I looked on ebay too, but sometimes I can't deal with it either. I googled and found a guy in Vegas that had a bunch of them. I should think that anybody that does mods on Scions has them. It was a few months ago, but I think mine was $80.

Well, I won the bid on a 2006 3 knob Scion Head Unit off E-Bay.
I hope it makes my 12" sub sound better as well as the sound as a whole. I was told that my amp is amplifying mediocre sound at best throught the LOC on the 4 Runner HU. My Fosgate amp and sub sounded better through my old Alpine HU in my old rig.
