Scion HU

It made a huge difference in sound. Not so much with the sub, but the system as a whole. I got a 1806 version. At first I was disappointed until I hit the middle button and punched it a couple of times to the "feel" mode. Night and day difference in sound.
If you are on the fence, I'd say go for it - you won't regret it.

Have you tried changing the Scion car model setting?
Just hold down the SSP button for a few seconds, then change through the models with one of the sets of up and down buttons

(or maybe it was the station 1-6 buttons, I can't recall).

Once you hold the SSP button and release to show the current vehicle mode, you change the model settings by turning the volume knob.

Did you happen to notice any other inputs back there? I'm trying to devise a way to hook up an MP3 player to the six-disc I've got coming in the mail.

If your talking about IPOD or mp3 Auxilury connection....search PIE-TOY I think I got mine from Logjam electronics for around $100. This was several years ago. Know another post in electronics section refered to getting it from crutchfield. It's similar to this:

Mine was for a Scion then I put it in a Tacoma and next I'll be installing it in the 4Runner. Pretty sure it works with most Toyota HUs. Sound was great for my XM unit also. You can connect two devices with rca cables.

Has anyone gotten the SCION HU to work on a 2003 Limited with JBL 10 speakers? I picked it up and the harnesses are not compatible. Just wondering if anyone found a way to work it.

Anybody got an answer for this one?

I just picked-up an '03 Ltd. with 10-speaker JBL too.

I really, really, really want to swap out the head unit.

It has always been my understanding they will not work with the JBL system, Extra speakers, amp, sub - the base system does not have these. The trim piece on the bottom of the JBL is different also. I have 1 4Runner with and 1 without the JBL, so I was able to compare them. I am not sure what your options are. I am sure someone here has upgraded from the JBL to something else, just not sure what. Some heavy thread searching might answer that. Good Luck

Honestly my JBL equiped 08 sounds much better than my Scion equiped 04.

Well guys---I will be doing the swap tomorrow. I got a T1807 off of Ebay for $9.95 (+$20 shipping) brand new in the box never installed! I also contacted that guy off of Ebay that sells the AUX cables so I can plug in my Sansa MP3 player. Just need the rain to stop tomorrow morning like they say it should.

That's a heck of a buy - Can you give me info regarding the mp3 cord? I need one for my T1806.

Send an email to [email protected]

He is the one that sells them. Make sure to send him in the email what model H/U you have and if you have steering wheel controls. This is what he sent me in an email regarding price:

The cables sell for $29.95 which includes free USPS First class shipping,
or for $32.45 you can have USPS Priority shipping.
Please specify which, and send the correct amount to paypal "[email protected]"

Thanks - I thought I seen in another thread where they were in the neighborhood of $100.00 - $150.00?!

Got me on that one. Maybe that was the Toyota IPod cable, which I believe is WAY friggin expensive. I just installed the radio and the AUX cable. I drilled a little hole through the center trim right where the little cubby is so I could run the wire through that, then connnect my MP3 player. That way I can tuck everything nice and neat inside the cubby and out of sight.

Yes it does. The sound is AMAZING! It threw me for a loop though as the stock plug for that input is no just waiving in the breeze. I plugged in the AUX cable and was like "Well now where in the hell does this go?!" Anyways, just taped it to some other wires along with the second antenna wire so tey would rattle. Works great. I even changed the start up screen to read "Shaun's 4Runner".

there's a local guy selling a never used take-off T1807 unit for $60, the price isn't bad considering these are running $50+ ship on ebay.

problem is he does not have the VIN#, and i called the local dealerships asked about the lock code, but the guy who anwsered my call seemed to be a complete dumb fawk.

so, here is my question: does the T1807 unit have a theft lock function? will it work if i swap it on my 04 without the donor VIN#?

thanks

thanks for your reply. i got it installed this evening, i got to read all the instructions you guys posted, had it done in 25 minutes start to finish, even included the time to test it before putting everything back.

i got a second one from the seller, if anybody wants one(T1807, with one round knob), let me know, $50+sh

NOOOOB

Ok, so I am brand new here, just got my '06 SR5 T4R yesterday. I am pumped, I love it. A friend told me about this scion head unit mod and I was considering doing it, but what are the main differences btw the stock 4runner unit and the scion? I have the single disc with mp3 capability.
