Scion Xb and Xa radios the same or not?

I'm over on the Scion boards looking to pick up one of their factory radios, either the single or 6-disc ones, and see one guy selling his from an Xa. Does anyone know here if the radios with the Xa vehicles are the same as the Xb's?

They are the same. xB radios can be changed to xA radios and vice versa by holding down a button on the HU.

I think the only difference (other than the number of discs they can hold) is that the 6-disc has the multi-color display option that lets you change the color of the backlight on the display.

I'm meeting someone tomorrow to buy a single disc unit from them. It works out perfectly because the backlight on the single disc HU matches the organge backlighting on my 4Runner.

They are one and the same, in either single CD or 6 CD models. By holding the SSP button for three seconds and then using the volume control button it can be toggled between xA and xB settings. As the xA and xB have different interiors the HU allows for the appropriate base settings.
Single CD players come only withn the orange backlighting that matches 4th gen Runners while the 6 CD player has color choices.

I have discovered the difference between the xA and xB settings is the ammount of power delivered to the rear speakers.

I have the 6 speaker stereo. The rear speakers are in the doors at calf level. While the radio is in xA mode the rear passengers complain that the radio is not loud enough while it is plenty loud in the front and with the radio in xB mode they don't compalin.

I figure this is to compensate for the location of the rear speakers in the xA and xB. I am guessing that the xA model has rear deck speakers (behind the rear passengers heads) and the xB model has the same rear setup as my 4runner (in the doors). So it makes sence that the xA setting would decrease the output to the rear speakers to compensate for their location.

That certainly seems to make sense, jj8111, as I too noticed the sound difference.

How do you change between the 2 settings.....one for xA and xB??

I did that and I have 3 settings......tC, xA and xB. So far I like the xB settings the best. Seems like the one for tC would be good for classical or the old 50's crooners....ie Sinatra and Deano.
