Scratch removal?

hi mates,

upon washing my car last week.. I notice some light scratches from the last wheeling trip + fishing trip..

I was wondering has anyone tried the nu finish scratch removal?

if not, what other approach should I proceed with?

The detailing nuts will tell you to stay away from NuFinish products. (I use to he one of them). All in all they're not bad. Definitely worth a shot. If it doesn't work though, compound, polish and wax it. Have you ever used a buffer before? If not, maybe recruit a friend who has. You can do a lot of damage with a high speed buffer if you're not careful.

I hope I am not a detailing nut even though I do it as a secondary profession.

Nu Finish has merit, but the best in store hand applied product I have found is Meguiars's Scratch X. Put on and take off making sure the area is clean; then wash the 4runner a day or two later. The reapply.

If you have access to a rotary buffer or D.A. machine, that should make light work of it.

light surface scratches will come off with any good buff and polish product/method. I prefer by hand, most use an orbital.

deep scratches won't come off without body work (wet/dry sanding, respray and re-clear coat then buff and polish yet again!) :artist:

I use some 'hide-a-scratch' wax (Mothers, Maguires, forget which). You can buff them out, if you are done 4-wheeling. But if you plan to do it again, eventually all that buffing will cut through the clear coat. I'm happy with a few minor, pretty-well-hidden scratches (that show it's not a mall queen but really goes off-road). When I get ready to sell it I'll do the full buff - once!

plus the buffer takes out all of mine.

and have been using this with great results on my black car...

Is the ultimate polish pretty simple to use?

Im debating on it and I haven't used an buffer before..

I will take an look at it.. But ATM, still deciding the 3, nu finish, ultimate polish or scratch x..

On top of this, my pop's decided to use my rig for fishing and added a little bit to the roof..

Fml...

Maybe is time to consider an double cab tacoma or an diesel truck..

Removing paint scratches from forest roads

I scratched up my paint driving off-road in Eastern Oregon last week. Here are two products that worked great for me.

1. For surface-level scratches that are only as deep as the clear coat (that is, small enough that your fingernail doesn't catch when you run it over them), this 3M product is amazing. Follow the 3-step process (a hand drill is required) and it totally removed all scratches:

2. For deeper scratches that go all the way down to the steel, you have to get a paint repair kit from a Toyota dealer. They'll ask for your VIN to make sure they give you the exact paint. It can be brushed on with the included brush, or there's a pin head to paint it on like a marker. It doesn't look exactly like factory, but close enough (if your car needs a perfect finish, you shouldn't be taking it off-road anyhow...):

I have used it as well, it is easy. However, if you are only doing a section you'll find at the end the part you polished will look more glossy than the rest of the 4Runner! Before you know it you'll be doing the whole car.

I highly recommend Meguiar's products, they made my Desert Dune 4Runner look like it has a new paint job.

I have used Meguirs, Mothers, orbital cheapo buffer. As long as scratch is not through the clear it can be made to look better if not gone. Only do as much as you have to to remove scratch. Start with normal wax and buffer light pressure work the surface keeping eye on dryness of wax. You can do this way 2-3 times and remove heavy scuffs n scratches with minimal if any cut into clear coat.
