SCS Wheel/Tire Size Dilema

For reference, I have a 2000 Limited with Sonoran 1.2 lift and I've gone through the entire front end steering and suspension and replaced all bushings and ball joints/tie rod ends with OEM Toyota parts(with the exception of Whiteline LCA bushings).

I'm currently running 265/75-16 Duratracs in 'C' load. I love these tires and have got great tread life out of them with almost 45k miles on them and still 9/32nds tread left. I really like the offroad and snow characteristics of the Duratracs.

I want to go up in size to 285s, or something very similar to a 33" tire. I've decided on SCS F5 wheels, but im not sure whether to stay with 16x8, or jump up to 17s? This is a daily driver for me and spends 95% or its life on pavement. I'm more concerned with ride quality than most other aspects of a tire. I'm very concerned about the harsh ride quality that may come with 285 Duratracs, since they're only available in 'E' load. I'm willing to get 17" wheels if the 'D' load tires that are available in 285/70-17 are going to be a fair amount softer ride quality.

Looking for advice/opinions on whether I should get 17s for the wider range of tire options. Thanks!

My take would be that if you planned on sticking with the 285 size, you have some options as Dar as tire choice goes if you go with 16" wheels.

However, it seems that if you jump up to 17" wheels, you might have more choices going forward. If you choose to run skinny tires, 255/70/17, it looks like you have more options with the 17" wheels in tire size and load range. For example Nitto tires seem to favor 17" wheels for one reason or another for tire options.

More vehicles these days seem to be coming with 17" wheels, so I see things trending that way.

But do your homework as far as tire price differences between two like tires. Last I looked, it seemed that tires for 17s are a fair amount more expensive on average.

Btw, nice wheel choice. What color are you looking to get?

gunmetal 3.5" BS. I kinda wonder how those 5 spokes look in a 17" wheel on a small 4runner. they look great in a 35"+ tire size on larger vehicles ike LandCruisers and Lexus GX, etc. 17" might be a big large for the real basic wide 5 spoke design of the F5.

I know there are a few builds on here runnin 17" SCS F5s, but I can't recall who. I don't think it'll look weird at all. But what you think is more important as you are paying for them. Those should look pretty cool.
