Sealing the hood scoop

As you know with the sport hood, the scoop is not 100 percent sealed. When it rains water gets through and makes a mess of the engine bay. Is there anyone who has sealed there scoop using silicone or another product? Is it even worth it? Will the insulation get ruined or sag over time do to the leaking water?

I have 12 years of a leaking hood scoop with zero issues from it. I had a crack in mine that I sealed/fixed with a two part epoxy that is made for plastics. If you are concerned, either epoxy it or silicone. Beware, once you use silicone, nothing else will ever stick to that area.

My truck is almost 10 years old and never had an issue with water in the engine bay...

If you seal it then water or condensation will likely end up sitting somewhere it shouldn't longer than it should and you'll end up with bigger issues.

Good idea. If the Japanese had wanted it sealed, then they would have sealed it.

The only problem i had my with scoops are the hex nuts that hold the assembly together that are accessed from the under-side of the hood. Ive had a couple rust to hell, while the others around them are absolutely perfect.

I had just bought my 2008 SE V8 and saw that one was 100% covered in rust. When it went in for it's 1st oil change, i had it changed out with a fresh one, but also at that particular time i was under the impression that the scoop WAS SEALED, and i saw a drip from that screw/nut after i was finished washing the truck. Even the Toyota techs at my dealership werent sure if it was sealed or not!

Techincally with the insulation under the hood, the water should drip onto that then travel towards the front of the hood and drip over the fan area right? Instead of on the engine cover?

This thread reminds me of my first car. I never did have the cajones to carve out the rear of the scoop for added air.
