Before disconnecting the seat belt pretensioner, the manual says to disconnect the neg terminal of the battery: "Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait at least for 90 seconds."

The entire vehicle explodes in a cacophony of fire and brimstone.

Joking aside, the pretensioner is an explosive device tied to the SRS Airbag System. Failure to disconnect the battery and wait the allotted time allows the risk/potential that the device could be accidentally armed/deployed. That being said, they design the SRS systems to be rather safe and redundant. So while I am not advising you to not disconnect the battery (in fact I encourage the opposite and to follow the manual), properly disengaging the clip on the pretensioner after waiting about 5 minutes after you turn the key off will reduce the possibility of accidental discharge to very minimal probability.
