Seatbelt chime disabler

Got these off ebay for less than $10. They are great. They allow the chime to still function so if passengers don't wear their seatbelt I don't get pulled over. But for hunting or mild trail riding I can plug them in and no chime or blinking light.

I came to this thread fully expecting a fancy and expensive doohickey, but I was disappointed... in a good way. I'm a big advocate of just wrapping the belt around the back of the seat when I need it out of the way (on trails, etc). But, for those that like to live dangerously this is a great alternative.

I tried having them turn it off. Typical deal, they said they couldn't, laws etc. blah blah blah. I like this solution better anyway, because like I said, it keeps the chime so passengers have to put their belt on when on the road and I don't get pulled over and hasseled. But then out on private property plug these in and no chime or even blinking light which I think is still on even if you get the chime disabled at the dealer.

Mine too. The service manager originally said they couldn't do that, but when the tech came out to customize my vehicle for other options, I asked. He said "shh" and turned it off.

Offer them 10K real money to cite the law. 20K if they can cite Toyota policy.

Not sure if it matters to you but whoever does your service seems to have zero issues with lying to your face. Good luck with that!

HaHa, I forgot about the tape covering the light! No matter how they got turned off, I just wanted them off. I think the dealers are just lazy or scared or both. They freak out whenever you ask about stuff dealing with the seatbelts or safety features.

Then they should give up their jobs for a rewarding career as an accountant. But again, according to your story - they look you in the face and flat out lied to you.

Yeah, I guess they did. But this was an easier fix than arguing with them or trying to find another dealer to turn it off.

Don t even mess with the dealer. Just google "disable seat belt chime 4runner" and what ever year you have and there you will find how to do it yourself. I did it on my 08 4runner and my 12 grand Cherokee. You might have to click on a couple of links to find it but it's there. It's usually something easy. My Cherokee was turn off ignition with seatbelt clipped. Turn on ignition, wait for the seatbelt light to go off and fasten and unfasten the seatbelt 3 or more times in 10secs then turn the ignition off. Vamos... No seatbelt chime. And if you ever want to turn it back on just do the process again and it's back. Check it out!

Tried that too at the suggestion of a friend with an 06 FJ. I think I found out that the 5th gen 4Runners require the computer to disable it. I am happy with my solution, because I like the fact that I still have the chime for people who aren't wearing it when I am on the road.

You're welcome. Thought these could be helpful to someone else. I think I searched on ebay for toyota chimex or Toyota seatbelt buckle. I originally saw something similar on the Craven website, but they were more expensive. Most of the one on ebay seem to be made in and shipped from China (or Hong Kong), but the shipping was fast, and free.

Can the dealer disable the chime / warning for when the vehicle is driving with the liftgate open? So annoying.

I'm planning to pull the meter panel and de-solder the buzzer. I am assuming it is in the same place on the PCB behind the speedo as it was in my Tacoma.

Can anyone confirm?
Does the buzzer ever make a useful noise? I don't care about seat belt or door open alarms.
