Seatbelt Light

My seatbelt light is almost always on. Does not matter if I have a passenger or anything in the seat, it is on. Every few weeks it might turn off when I drive somewhere, but you can be sure it will be back on the next time I crank my car. The alarm/chime does not go off, only the light. Now, the alarm will go off if I have a passenger that has not put their seatbelt on yet. And it turns off correctly when they put it on, but the light stays on. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Sounds like your drivers seatbelt may be malfunctioning. Shouldnt be recognizing a passenger without the weight, doesnt recognize the back seats. You could get a seat belt from a junkyard and see if that fixes it, or bring to Toyota and see if that seatbelt is under warranty. But I would start with the belt where it plugs into the base of the seat. Something with that sounds faulted.

I have not had the problem with my 4Runner but I did with a '99 Sienna. The driver seat belt light wouldn't go out. Turned out to be in the seat belt retractor that's inside the B pillar. I opened that up and disconnected one of the wires, I don't recall what color, and now the seat belt light stays off, but then so does the alarm. We always wear our belts so no problem. You can replace the retractor and that will solve the problem if the light stays off. Just pulling a wire was easier for me. :)

If disconnecting the wire doesn't fix it then the problem is elsewhere.
