Seatbelts are...dead?

So in my strife to restore my 91 Runner it seems as though my seat belts have lost their mojo, they no longer spring back into the interior panel. What do? Do I need new seat belts? Or is there a way to tighten them back to their natural springy self?

They are just weak. Not sure of a fix, most just deal with it.

I hate when a passenger doesn't pull their belt back in before they shut the door -- then they leave the belt caught hanging out, trapped at the bottom of the door. :uzi:

My driver's seat belt would sag to the floor, would have to dig for it every time. I didn't want to mess with any adjustments as it is a safety device after all. I put on a tight seat belt from the passenger side (from a donor truck) on the driver side, it bolted on perfectly, and the inertia lock and retraction work just fine. This is on my '86 4runner. Oh one thing I did have to flip the direction on the buckle by folding the belt and pulling it though the "eyelet" of the pillar mount.

Ok, just tightened my seatbelt retractor spring. It worked ok, but I did run into a couple of issues. See my build thread for a short write-up.
