I know this probably been discuss already but can't seem to find the thread on it. My 05 4runner's driver seat has this popping sound when I sit in the chair. It's also occurs from the bottom as well.It sounds like a clicking sound coming from the bottom. I can see that there is play on the front bottom latch of the seat already. Does anyone have the same problem or knows what I am talking about? What were their solution(s)? :( :bash:

It hasn't been fixed on my 2004 and I've learned to live with it. I think in 2006 they redesigned the seats so that was the fix then...

yeah... totally redesigned... made it electric.

i had that popping sound in my previous car, a solara.

i think it's a combonation of how the seat is positioned and the mechanical feature itself is flawed.

* I went to my Toyota service department. Told them of the problem and they ordered a complete new seat frame assembly, replaced it and no more pops. There are a few specific TSB's which address the problem:
NV004-03 FRONT SEATBACK UPPER SQUEAK,
NV001-03 FRONT SEAT TRACK SQUEAK,
NV010-02 FRONT SEAT QUEAK,
NV003-04 SECOND ROW SEAT BACK NOISE,
NV006-03 REAR SEAT CENTER ARMREST CUP HOLDER RATTLE (REVISED)
Due to the design of the manual seat assembly, it still automatically retracts from the highest seating position and if you grab lower portion front of the seat it will still move a bit. There is nothing the dealer can do about that. It does not mean the seat will be coming off the mounting brackets as some would like to suggest.
If you join TundraSolutions.Com you can get all the TSB's, updates and manuals in PDF form.

Thanks Mr Tom

I wish I could just go to the same dealership you went. That would make easier for me. Trying to explain TSB's to another dealership is very difficult. I guest I have to take that chance.:(

I have the seat "pop" also.
Makes a popping noise that can also be felt.
Occurs almost whenever I accelerate, brake or move in the seat itself. It has existed since the day I drove it home. I thought it was something that would work itself out but has only increased with time.

Called Toyota Customer Service, reported and will post results.
Still under warranty, just haven't made it to the local dealer yet.

Noisey driver seat

My 2005SE (14000mi) has that popping noisey seat since 5000 mi . Never went to dealer because I know they wouldn't fix it just like all the othr posts in this thread. But after reading MTD4RNR post about getting a new seat I decided to go and make a claim. Well today the dealer says they are not going to do a thing...that it can't be fixed and Toyota knows about it and says you have to live with it. I am not surprised...so if toyota is fixing seats my dealer doesn't know about it. I told them this would be the last Toyota I would buy but it didn't faze them. Its a shame we have to live with this.....next I intend to call Toyota direct and expect the same blowoff.

That is not encouraging news for I have an appointment with Toyota on Wednesday for that same seat popping issue. It almost feel like the seat is also moving.

I have a 2004 Sport and have been having problems with my seat too. After reading this post, I stood outside the driver's side and held the drivers seat by the upper back and rocked it. Just like others have said, my seat rocks diagonally and moves about an inch up and down, back and forth. I have a call into the local dealership that I have worked successfully with before. I'll repost after I talk with them about a new seat. :-) I only have 23K miles on it so I'm still covered by the warrenty.

I think I am SOL I am past the warranty on mine, but I am looking for the day they recall the seat, so I guess there is still hope.

Please keep us posted.

I stopped by the dealership today and had them look at the movement in my driver's seat. They weren't aware of any TSBs on the problem but they did agree it was broken. They ordered a new complete rack assembly and will replace it under warrenty. They say they send the truck out to a local upolstery shop and have them remove the upolstery and padding from the old rack assy and install it back onto the new rack assembly and then back into the truck. They should have the part sometime next week. I'll post an update after they complete the work.

I went to my stealership Thursday and spent two days without my truck. They where checking the problem of rocking and popping of the driver seat and also the sulfur smell as well. They held my truck for 2 days only to tell me that they have to order a new catalystic converter and part(s) for the driver seat or a new seat entirely. :bash:

Last Thursday the dealership replaced the lower track assembly of my driver's seat. They covered it under warrenty , which is a good thing. They pulled up the part number of the lower rack assembly and showed me that the Toyota cost was $2023!

Currently the service manager was not able to find any related TSBs on the driver's seat. With the part cost so high, it shouldn't take Toyota too long to red flag the failures and issue a TSB.

For now, my seat is back normal. We'll see if it starts rocking again in another 20K miles. :-)

Noisey seat

You guys are doing great. I got a call from dealer customer satisfaction rep and I told him I was not a happy camper after spending 30 K and having this problem. He said contact Toyota direct and complain and I did. Toyota says they are working on problem, after I told them its all over the net furums. They don't have a fix yet so they say but expect to have some answers within a couple of weeks .That they will contact dealers and let them know. But since its not a recall you have to keep calling the dealer to find out if there is a fix. Sounds a little hokie to me but thats what I got. So if your dealer is fixing your problem now be very thankful cause I got know where with mine. I got the feeling from talking to the dealer that it was Totota that was not responding. I told them that toyota was replacing seats and they acknowledged that there had been some seat replacements but that there was still problems with the outside source for the seats. So thats what I know...I am not doing as good as you guys with the fix. Will keep you posted. Will keep calling the dealer.

I had the problem on my 04 for a while. I was finally fed up with it so i had the dealer look at it when i went in for an oil change. They were great about it and ordered a new seat frame assembly no questions asked and no hassle. They never gave me the 'cannot duplicate' crap.

I got a notice a week later and i took it in. It took them quite a while to replace(like 6 hours) and since then it has been fine, no noise and no movement. They did not have to send it out to an upholstery shop to do the work.

I was actually surprised they were so good about it. Best thing the dealer has done for me yet.

They didnt say anything about it, but i kinda gathered that they have had to do this replacement a few times from the way they acted. If your dealer gives you a hard time about it, try another dealer(if thats an option where you are). Or hound them til they fix it.

On my invoice for the work they call it the Front Seat Frame Assembly(FRAME ASSY, FR SE). In the end it cost me nothing so i was a happy camper.
