Tahuya trip was a blast for the most part. Here is how it went. Will work on posting pictures and video tomorrow. I have named my 4runner The Mountain Goat
Left Seattle at 8 am.Took ferry to Southworth and then drove to Tahuya.
Started at the main entrance accross from staging area and worked our way around whole loop and hit lots of side trails ans most are now open to 4x4s. with all the rain that we have had there was mud and huge puddles everywhere. My 4runner does not have a locker and i did totally fine the whole time and never got stuck... But i did break off my passenger side upper control arm bracket on the axle the first 30 minutes on the trail and my rear sway bar is broken off on one side. So everyy bump the control arm braket make an awful clunking sound.
As for my buddy in his lifted 2003 f150... he wanted to get his white truck as muddy as possible(Mine ended up way muddier). He attempted to go through a obviously deep and very muddy hole and then buried his truck till the doors were just starting to touch the water. I attempted to attach my chains to his rear tow point but found solid mud was above his rear bumper... so i attached to his front bumper and the 4runner easily pulled him out.
About 30 minutes down the trail from him getting stuck, things got fun. He pulled over and said his truck was overheating. i knew that he had a slow coolant leak and figured it was just low. Knowing that the coolant reservoir would be pressurized with steam due to it being 240 degrees, i donned a glove on my left hand and unscrewed the reservoir cap. just as it came free a geyser of extremely hot coolant burst out of the reservoir soaking my hand and glove. a small section of my hand now has 3rd degree burns that hurt like a Mother****er. and we didnt have a complete first aid kit with any burn stuff so that just sucked. But i pushed on.
We didnt have any water to refill the reservooir so i went to a small spring that was nearby and filled a bucket with the cleanest water i could find, then I filtered it through a doubled up shirt to remove any debris that could harm the engine.
After refilling the engine we loaned tools to a few ATVers that had thrown their chain and then helped them get going again. Then we decided to try to get to mudlake before calling it a day. We ended up getting lost and then we were giving faulty directions to the exit/entrance and it took us 2.5 hours to find our way out in the dark.
I pulled into my driveway at 9:40 tonight.
