Seattle Area Alignmnet

Did a search but didn't find many referrals to local Seattle area shops. I wanted to report that I called Auburn Car Repair and Off-road and they said they have a great mechanic they use at Auburn Volkswagen named Jason who specializes in lifted alignments. Talked to the service advisor at Volkswagen and he quoted me $60 for an alignment! Great price! I'll report back on the alignment results.

I had taken it to Michael's Toyota in Bellevue and it didn't go well. It started with positive caster when I brought it in and was at zero when I got it back, sigh. Service adviser said it would be fine and that he did what he could. I won't accept that after it already had positive caster. They charged me $114 for reducing camber and getting the toe set. We'll see how it goes at Auburn.

I would do another alignment if I could find a shop who knew what they were doing. I bought firestone's lifetime alignment, next week will be the third time in as many weeks they've aligned it. Last time they forgot to center the wheel

So far so good, he seems much more competent than the previous shop. I will know more in about an hour.

I'm happy to report that he was able to get 2.25 degrees of positive caster, slight positive camber and toe in spec. He confirmed my suspicions that Michael's Toyota had crossed up the adjustment cams and maxed them out the wrong way, aft pointing outwards rather than inwards.

If you want your alignment done right, ask for Jason at Auburn Volkswagen!

Correction on the alignment cost. The service advisor came over to me all solemn and said he made a mistake and that the alignment he quoted me was wrong, it was actually $100, not $60. Although I could've made a stink and probably gotten it for $60, I was prepared to pay $100 and considering Jason did such a great job, I had no problems paying the extra.

I went back to Michael's Toyota and asked for a refund after showing them the details of what Auburn VW was able to do (how embarrassing when another dealership, of a different brand can do it better than you). I also sent the service advisor an email with why Auburn VW was able to get so much positive caster, that Michael's tech had basically maxed out the adjustment cams in the wrong direction. They are mailing me a refund check for my entire alignment. Win!

Nice. Glad to hear. I am getting ready to lift my 4runner in the next few months (have to make it through the Holidays) and will definitely contact them. I was worried about finding a good place to take the rig to.

Scheduled an appointment with the Renton Firestone at the recommendation from some TacomaWorld peeps. Here's hoping they do a better job than the Lynnwood one (They forgot to center the wheel last time, barely adjusted caster after I asked for more to clear my tires)

Let us know how it turns out. Nice to build a list of competent alignment shops in the Seattle area.
