Best recommendation is to take off the running boards if they aren't already... They hang low and like to pick up damage fairly quick.

Radios are all the same to some extent. The antenna is what really defines the performance. I personally have a cobra 75, but only for the compact size. The cobra 19 is cheap and easily found at Walmart. The Wilson lil wil antenna is quite amazing if you want a temporary mount. That little antenna mounted up top out performs all the lower bumper / hood mounted ones I've seen, but is prone to trees. You can also hood mount it too.

yeah me too unfortunately, one of the groomsmen/best friend from my wedding and his wife are moving to Nicaragua on the 30th we're having a weekend long going away party.

I just ask that people give a full commitment before being added to the list. I'd be more inclined to wait at the parking lot a few extra minutes for someone who said that they would definitely be there, rather than waiting for someone who said that they "might" be there...

How critical is a CB? I'm not sure I'll have one by Sat. Although I've had an antenna mount for almost a year (standard ops for me if you know anything about my sliders).

I'm not getting a CB. While I agree they do come in handy on occasions like this, I just don't want one. I feel a little too much like I'm in Smokey and the Bandit or the movie Joyride and my brother is Paul Walker

The cobra 75 or any of the handheld ones hardly take up any room, and the mag mount antennas offer nice temporary mounts.

CB's are great for quick spots, to ask for a spot, to call out incoming traffic on the back roads and warn people behind (think one lane gravel roads with blind corners), announce turns, and to ask why people are held up behind. It's great for communicating between groups... Its a must IMO

i also roll with a 70cm,2,6 meter handheld ham radio, i pefer this over the CB as CB seems to only be of any use when rolling as a pack already, i've been in areas of no contact many times with the cb when the ham reaches out and touches, heck doing things right with the ham you can chat 1/2 way across the country or send and s.o.s messages like the rain fall where the signal literally rains down on an area.(scatter propagation or nvis)

pretty cool stuff, it really depends on what you do, i do mostly remote,solo,long distance, overland type things, so this system is much much better for actual rescue or emergency needs, but if your going on trail runs or only 5~10 miles deep in areas that aren't very hilly or wooded then CB is the way to go...plus it's much cheaper and doesn't require a test to use, lol.....
