Anyone able to help with some additional lights?
Hey guys,
I've been in Seattle for the last 3 years, transplanting from Alabama by way of Arizona (U of A grad). I have 2005 v8 limited 4runner that I've been playing around with.
I finally was able to change the suspension over from the XREAS to complete trd offroad tacoma parts and rear FJ coils. Was able to find all of it on clist for sub $300. However I did source someone else to install them.
I will be completely honest, I am pretty handy around the house, however that for whatever reason does not transfer over to the car department. I frequently go up to the NE Cascades (Mazama Area) and typically leave after work and just can't get over how many deer are in/around the road. I know just one day one is going to pop out in front of me, and my eyes literally hurt after the ride because I strain so much to find them.
Because of this I went a little overboard, I knew I couldn't afford a bumper replacement right now (good defense is a great offense right), so I went with the strategy of greatly improving my lights.
I'm seeking anyone's help who is familiar with doing this. I'm on the verge of going to the shop, but I know what I am asking them to do is not terribly sophisticated, it's just time consuming and takes basic knowledge (that I don't have). I'm completely capable being the sous chef on this if anyone is able to lead me along.
What I want done (I believe I have ALL parts necessary, minus the drill/saw and any soldering equipment).
1.Install hood ditch lights using the CBI brackets and 2" spots.
2. Install a 20" single row light bar to the front bumper
3. Install two 2" flood lights to the lower grille valence like this: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/163126-rigid-industries-d2-driving-lights-installed.html
-I have a dual male to female waterproof connector and wiring harness for the ditch lights.
-I have a quad male to female waterproof connector and wiring harness to combine the light bar + lower grille flood lights.
-I also have 2 rocker switches from aironboard for both lights.
As you can see from my novel, I've done a bit of research. I just need the assistance if there is anyone able to lend a hand.
I'm located in Seattle city, able to go pretty much anywhere to get it done. I know it's a long process so a weekend would probably make the most sense if I am to assist you. If someone wants to take this on without my assistance we can work it out that way.
Whatever anyone thinks is reasonable for this type of work I'm willing to do. Cash, beer, bud, whiskey, I'm sure we could work something out.

That'd be awesome and completely ok. I'm still waiting on my 4 pods which should be here by middle of next week. What part of town are you in? By the way, i saw that you have used auburn off road before. They installed my shocks and struts and were probably going to be my go to for this project if I wasn't able to find anyone to help. Do you have anyone else that you would recommend over them in the event you were unable to do it?

I cant see taking a light install project in. Its, as you said, time consuming, and not too difficult. Mule or a similar offload retailer shop I would think could do it.

Yeah I know, but it's just so many things and I'm pretty lost when it comes to these type of things. Auburn offroad quoted me for 4 hours I believe.

Its probably a day job if you haven't worked on a lot of stuff. The mounts you linked may need to be created depending what's available to bolt into.

I just wanted to echo Brilliant's recommendation of Mule Expedition Outfitters as a shop to use for anything you don't want to or can't tackle...Especially when it comes to electrical installations. They take a lot of pride in their wiring. Just had them install a dual battery system, and I love watching people's expressions when I open the hood to show them. It is not only a solid install, it is a work of art. Talk to Joe. He is one of the most knowledgeable people out there when it comes to electrical issues and installs.

The supercharger in my 1998 Runner sounds rough. I think the bearings are shot. I looked at potentially rebuilding myself, but think its beyond my ability. Do any of you have a recommendation for a local shop in the Seattle area that could rebuild the supercharger?

X2 on the TorFab (Everett) suggestion if you can wait. They're usually booked solid for a ways out for a reason. They do quality work and they're good folk.

Anyway if anyone ever needs a hand with anything let me know; my garage is pretty much a full service shop, I'm also in the process of learning how to bend an build rock sliders and bumpers. so If anyone has done this before and wants to show me some tricks or give some pointers that would be awesome.

Welcome aboard! Where about in Florida did you live? I grew up in Naples, and lived in Tallahassee for a few years.

I like to visit Florida, but I can't see myself living in that hot weather again. I have grown accustom to things like, seasons. I had a blast growing up in Naples before it all got developed. I used to ride 3 wheelers all day out in the woods. Now it's all golf courses. And, people get upset if you ride on their golf course...
