The guy that built my rack uses Thermo Tech in Monroe for all of his powdercoating. I believe it was $125 to have my rack done. $350 does seem steep for a bumper, I think. Twice what CBI charges to have it done before they ship it to you.

Getting an estimate is proving to be more difficult than I anticipated. So far, I had the one kinda high quote, and a "he'll call you in the morning answer from last week. For some reason I tried American Powdercoating in Mukilteo. I will try the Thermo Tech guys.

I guess I am surprised that places like Shrockworks can offer it further under $200, but others are about twice that.

Clutch replacement recommendations, plz

Hey all, I just moved up here to North Tacoma area from NorCal and looking for a new shop to take my rig - until then I am going to drive my truck back down to Marin next week and have my tech replace the clutch in my '96 4R SR5 V6. I would appreciate some updated/more current recs and suggestions for clutch brands ya'll think would be best in my DD. So far I'm looking at Centerforce, Marlin, Exedy (OEM), and AISIN.
There are SO MANY threads with various recs but they are from 4-5 years ago or more and I would like to hear some current thoughts/suggestions. Thanks!

I asked CBI about that before. Basically when a company goes to one place consistently to have work done with a good bit of volume they get a better deal. It's a lot cheaper for them to throw one more bumper in with the rest of the bumpers they're doing than it is to do one bumper by itself between all the other stuff they're doing.

I also learned that the labor rate at CBI is like $65/hr. Here in Seattle you'll be hard pressed to find a business under $100/hr.

This evening I saw a lifted desert dune 3rd gen with a CVT tent on top, bumpers front and rear, etc, etc. Who are you?! Was on Coal Creek right before it crosses 900 when I saw it/you.

I'm guessing the rear bumper was new... Looked fancy, and the rear springs were having a hell of a time with it.

Sorry. I would love to help, but mine is an auto. All I know is that I don't want to blow this tranny because replacements are pricey!

On a nicer note you didn't explain yourself completely. Are you wheeling this rig hard? Weekend warrior? Once a month or just DD? All these guesting come to play when buying for the right reasons. All that you mentioned are all good brands to choose from.

there are several shops around that id go to, Bellevue toyota would be one, there are some shops in portland area... idk i wouldnt drive a truck two states away just to have a clutch done, but thats me. personally id go with centerforce, i have had two of their dualforce clutches in my last two manual rigs and loved them. never gave me any issues, and they felt stock, but hold almost double the power of a stock clutch.

Are you still on your OE clutch? Generally they last a hell of a long time. I'd go OEM or AISIN.

No idea on a shop... I'd say Torfab but they're booked through God knows when.

No idea on a shop... I'd say Torfab but they're booked through God knows when.

Just went in to TorFab last week for a bit of work on my 4Runner. I need to go back for some more work to be done on it and they are now booked through August. Good for them, great shop, you can tell they are a great bunch of guys who knows their stuff and really treats their customers right, but good lord is the line long.

I ended up sucking it up and at least putting my name down for a spot in line for more work. With that said, I think I need to look for other good shops that knows their Toyota trucks in and out without as long of a wait, it's a bit tough to have to wait 2+ months every time.
