Out of curiosity, how much were your 3rd gen tabs the last time you got them?
I got my 2018 tabs in early March, on my 2002 for $134. I am wondering if THAT was the price increase for the new tax, or if it goes higher next year. It won't tell me what mine will be for next year as it is not within the renewal window just yet.
Someone at work told me their truck cost them $650 to get renewed for his truck. I am glad I don't have a brand new truck. That would be hard to swallow.

Getting ready to re-up my tabs on the '99. They are only $64 this year. It was $264 for a 2016 Corolla which was a surprise. There was a new $199 transit tax but I'm up in Snohomish, so I think that might be a county thing.

Interesting... I figure that mine are slightly more because I have truck, or commercial plates, (pay tax by weight), but maybe this is a slight reprieve for having an older vehicle. I can't imagine them telling me my tabs would be several hundred dollars. That would be the suck.

Anyone know a good shop for timing belt job?
I Remember someone mentioning a shop where one of the mechanics was a long time Toyota guy and was a master at timing belt jobs but can't seem to find that info.

Hey guys & gals!
Hope everyone has been having a great summer so far. I recently finished a lot of mods, big and small. And I finally found myself with some free time to get out this weekend.
Could someone suggest a place, probably off I-90 that would be cool to check out. I was thinking of something not too crazy or technical, (I should have at least one other 4th gen I am meeting up with). I want to test my various mods out on the easier side of things to avoid any surprises. Ideally, I would love to find a cool river or lake to chill at for a bit.
Also, I know someone told me long ago, but does anyone have a solid recommendation for alignment that knows how to align with the SPC Light Racing upper control arms? How is looking at cranking my coilovers about an inch, but want to have something better than a Firestone lifetime attempt to correct some rubbing and to get everything in the green again.

Hey Seattle folks! Looking for some advise. In a few weeks, my wife and I will be spending a week in Seattle, visiting our daughter. This will be our first time out there. We're hoping to spend at least a day or two touring in the mountains. Not offroading, just something that can be done in a rental car. Hoping to see lots of scenic views, overlooks, interesting things, etc.
So are there any specific areas, routes, or roads you would recommend? Thanks!

If highway 20 is open by then, I highly recommend that. It's a bit more of a haul from the city, but it's the best pass in the state by far. I doubt it will be though. They close it every winter and are now in the clearing process.
The standard and easy one to do is to drive highway 2 to Leavenworth and then do a loop through Blewett pass and back over Snoqualmie pass via I-90. Can be done in a single day easy. If you end up doing that, let me know. I can point you in the direction of a few spots that are easy access from the main roads that you may be interested in.
You can also consider Hurricane Ridge on the Olympic Peninsula, highway 12 over White Pass and loop back over Snoqualmie Pass, Whidbey Island and Deception Pass (not a mountain pass or drive), and Paradise at Mount Rainier. Like most of the year, this is a crummy weather time here so don't expect to see much of the sky. We do get some very nice days now and then but the best dependable weather is in July and August. Summer begins July 5th in western Washington. Be advised that Seattle area traffic is horrible.

Yeah, Hwy 20 is still closed, they haven't even started clearing from the east side yet (schedule to start 4/9), it'll be a while.
The Hwy 2/ 97/ I-90 loop would be a good one. Leavenworth is a Bavarian style tourist trap town that's neat for a short visit. If you remember some of the old TV shows you could stop off at Rosalyn (Northern Exposure) and Snoqualmie Falls (Twin Peaks). Has pretty cool overlook.
Otherwise you could do the ferry ride over to the Olympic Peninsula and explore over there too.

So I headed out to Tiger Mountain after work last Thursday hoping to get the 4Runner dirty on some forest service roads and maybe drive up to Poo Poo Point.
All the roads that I wanted to go on that looked interesting on Google Maps off Highway 18 were blocked by locked gates. What's the deal? This was at 7 pm - it wasn't even dusk. Where's a guy gotta go for some roads/trails suitable for a stock 4Runner this time of year near Seattle?

It's real limited this time of year, they limit the areas so the roads don't get trashed by yahoos making ruts. The roads are too muddy and get tore up real easy.
Most of the roads shown west of Hwy 18 within the State Forest are never open to the public, they're maintenance rods for the State Rangers, for all the trails. Too the east, it's a lot of private forest lands, and then you're getting into the Chester Morse watershed area that is very restricted.
Out of North Bend, you could try up the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie, or up through the Hancock area (it's all private timber land so you have to stay on the main road but it gets you way back in the mountains) Or look around Greenwater on 410, there's quite a few roads open during the winter in that area, but they may close them down in Spring.

If you end up stopping in Roslyn swing by The Brick Saloon for a bite to eat. Pretty cool place and I really enjoy the food. Even if you don't stop- look it up. Some cool history to it.
