Alright so I am officially done with the guy I bought the engine from. He was not at all helpful with the warranty covering my blown head gasket. He wanted me to pull the entire engine out to give to him or either pay him 900 bucks to him for labor. Becuase he didn't install the engine he wouldnt cover the labor to fix the engine he sold me.. Even though the engine already had the head gasket in place when I bought it. Oh and He magically couldnt find a copy of the reciept for my engine either. (I never got a copy after repeated tries) And he didnt even have a copy of the warranty he gives with the "hundred or so" engines he supposedly sells every month. So fair warning guys DO NOT BUY AN ENGINE OR ANYTHING FROM A GUY IN GIG HARBOR!! HE IS A CROOK! So after all that I have started taking everything apart on the truck to get the heads off. Got a good bit done today. I have just been taking my time though. I am going to get the heads port and polished while I am at it I think. Anyone know anything about this? Heard it done on a runner? I need to take the heads to a machine shop anyways to get looked at and checked so I figured why not?

Dang, that sucks. Seriously let me know if you need a hand. I'm self-employed, so I could get down there during the week just as easy as a weekend.
What's the name of the shop? I'll throw a bad review out there too. I wonder if we could have a section here that listed shops that people had both good and bad experiences with. Divided by region of course.

Ok so fml.. I broke my crank bolt off inside my engine..... I used some pb blaster and still broke that bolt and 2 ratchet extentions..
SO my options are...
1)try and dig the rest of the bolt out inside the engine bay and continue to replace my head gasket.
2)Take the engine out and dig it out then..
3)Replace the engine.. (Its might cost the same as fixing the current one..)
4)Part my whole truck out and start over on a 99' with a rear locker, supercharger? and hood scoop and just keep all the stuff that I had put on my old runner...

Damn. Not sure what else to say.
I guess I would try option 1 first and see how that goes. If it becomes a pain, then I guess it would be a question of how much time and money you want to invest. I do like the sounds of number 4. Except you don't want a supercharger. If you find one with one on it, give it to me.

No I haven't tried anything as of right now just because its to tight of a space to get a drill in.. I am giong to pull the engine soon I think and try and fix it.. Its jsut going to be slow going..
On the other hand I am glad I got it in the the garage. I didnt even have to take the rack off or deflate the tires.. Just goes to show how much a new suspension will settle...

I have just been informed by "Tyler Cook" via Facebook of an "unhappy customer" claiming that I am not honoring his warranty.
As our reputation is our upmost important thing we value most, I am glad to share the "other side of the story" as there is always 2 sides to ever story in life-
I sold a 5VZFE to John (jmt2404) last october/november, where he had us deliver it to another repair facility, Automotive Specialists (Tacoma, WA), who had already removed his old engine.
As the customer had never met us in person (he paid via credit card), we gave the copy of his invoice to Automotive Specialists who was in turn suppose to turn the copy over to the customer, either Automotive Specialists failed to pass on the copy, as the customer claims, or the customer lost it.
The written warranties we grant with our engines are as followed-
2 years, 24k mile parts warranty without installation
5 years, 60k mile warranty with installation, 1 year labor
*Warranties only include labor with the labor purchased from the beginning.
Rules of the written warranty (as shown on invoices)-
Must change oil/filter every 3kmiles or 3months & factory recommended tune ups with records.
Warranty does not cover overheating (as overheating can be caused from accessories such as radiator, thermostat, water pump, ect), accessories, electrical or towing.
Warranty valid only at Enginehaus, LLC with initial inspection reserved.
Original invoice and all maintenance records must be kept!
Our customer, John (jmt2404), called last week claiming he believed his "head gasket was blown" and asked if it was covered under warranty. I then informed him that the warranty does cover head gaskets just as long as the engine had never overheated.
On October 26th, at no charge, I went to the customers residence to inspect the customers engine, to confirm that the engine had never overheated. I was able to confirm that the engine had never overheated by making sure the heat tab was not melted (We install heat tabs that are designed to melt if/when an engine overheats).
So I informed the customer that indeed warranty to cover the "headgaskets" was valid, but that he was to either cover the cost of the labor of R/R'ing the engine (as he would be receiving a complete new engine) or that he would have to remove the entire engine himself.
He then agreed to remove the engine himself, but that it may take some time as an "ASE certified friend" who would help him do so was "out of town".
With his defective engine to be turned back in, he would not only have received a new engine, but a fresh new warranty as well.
A few days later,
I received a call from John, asking me what I was going to do with the "cylinder heads", I then re-informed john that I required the whole engine, not just the cylinder heads, as it would void the warranty as we, Enginehaus, LLC, would have no way of knowing that the cylinder heads were properly removed or to then be properly re-installed.
John then told me that he had no way of removing the whole engine as he didn't have a "cherry picker". He then attempted to persuade me to cover the labor, threatening me that he was going file a complaint with the BBB.
I again re-informed John that his warranty does not include labor without the labor purchased from the beginning.
John then informed me that he no longer wished to do business with us and that he is planning on having the cylinder heads "ported & polished".
I was even kind enough to call him back inform him that you can "borrow" a "cherry picker" for free through Autozone.
If John is still willing to return his engine as a complete longblock, I will still be glad to make the exchange or make repair with his current engine.
As I am now familiar with this amazing forum, I plan on becoming a contributor to tr4 where I will continue to show our great reputation! :cheers:

john, that sucks man, and feel your pain, but what enginehause is saying above is standard for almost any 2nd or 3rd party engine builder, the guy needs to cover his ass because he has no idea what kind of idiot is doing the install of one of his engines and could of possibly fubar'd the install and caused the failure.
that said even by his own omission he admits that the reason this one failed is on his end, i'd guess a bad machining job and would honestly take him up on a completely new longblock instead of skimming the current one even further.
the auto specialist that installed the engine has no barring in this conversation they did their job and did it on par, so what can you honestly expect from them?
so it's really a situation where neither one of you guys is going to come out feeling good about this, either enginehuase eats the time and labour for removal and install or john does, and let me say this, i get john being pissed as well if enginehuase would have done their job right in the first place there would be no issue and john would be on here singing the glory of his new engine, and those of us with 250k on their blocks would be considering this new guy up in gig harbour for our rebuild...myself included...
the right thing to do here is both of you guys (john and enginehuase) eat it, split the difference of the install and warranty it.....
i know that's not going to make either one of you happy, but it's really the fair thing to do for both of you, at least the way i see it.
john, learn your lesson about warranties and 3rd party installers all together,
he needs to protect himself thus the warranties on installs...always get the shop who made your engine to install it if the warranty states such a thing, as otherwise this happens and you could be liable to pay for it twice...you'd be worse of is the installer was the one that fubar'd it, you'd be out an engine instead of the install!
enginehuase- mic your surfaces for flatness before you assemble and ship engines out...this is not good for your reputation regardless of what happens here....you also have to understand he is upset because he is out alot of money because you failed to machine or assemble a engine correctly not because of anything he's done...you would be upset as well if this happened with you in your life....
yes, i do understand the difference between who's liable for what, and what is right/fair ... i just hope the pair of you can see it as well.
all of that aside, please do not post the address's of individuals on the internet, company's are ok but a customer or individual is not, who knows who is reading this and who might come knocking on his door, how would you feel if your home address was posted on the internet? i don't think this was a malicious thing you did here, i think you just don't know better, the forum may seem small and comfortable, but it is still part of the internet and any psycho,crazies, or ex-wife can view this and show up to johns house, not cool!!!!

Damage has already been done.. doesn't matter what you say now. I am not going to turn this thread into an arguement thread. Everything I have said was true. If I were you I would revise your warranty and have it mirror a warranty a well known reputable business and not a chop shop working out of a storage unit.

i was thinking more along the lines of some unhappy people from jmt2404s line of work, a crazy ex wife i think is the last thing jmt is or would be worried about lol.
i wouldnt even put addresses of companies or businesses unless its your personal business. jmo
