Seattle Area Maintenance and Meet

i was thinking more along the lines of some unhappy people from jmt2404s line of work, a crazy ex wife i think is the last thing jmt is or would be worried about lol.

i wouldnt even put addresses of companies or businesses unless its your personal business. jmo

well i figure companies are ok because i could just google the name of the company and find out were they were anyways, lol....

hause - Google Search

oh by the way, when i used googles gps to find johns house that day for the meet it showed up as a custom costume company....i was trying to figure that one out for a few days!

hey you guys have the part number for the shucks diff breather part hepar bought last weekend? i want to do mine but don't know what size i need.

^ its probably that way for a reason lol.

and yeah i know you can find a Co. with a simple google search, but in a situation like this where its a "pissing match" and both parties are in a dispute why give anyone the upper or lower hand. if someone wants to find a "bad" shop so they can know not to take their vehicle to it... then let them do the google search, no sense in doing everything for them. no if you are a happy customer and want to refer your friends to a place, eh i dont so much see the problem with it, but given the nature of the situation i feel its best not to give out address on the internet. its just bad for business. who knows one of jmt2404s friends might want to go pay the shop in question (either one for that matter) a visit and knock some heads together... i would not do that just to be clear, i have a little too much at stake. but there was a time when i would give it more thought, than just a passing smart a$$ comment.

again if its your company and you dont mind your address being out there in a situation like this then have at it. i know i wouldnt put my companies address out if i was in said dispute.

john, that sucks man, and feel your pain, but what enginehause is saying above is standard for almost any 2nd or 3rd party engine builder, the guy needs to cover his ass because he has no idea what kind of idiot is doing the install of one of his engines and could of possibly fubar'd the install and caused the failure.
that said even by his own omission he admits that the reason this one failed is on his end, i'd guess a bad machining job and would honestly take him up on a completely new longblock instead of skimming the current one even further.

the auto specialist that installed the engine has no barring in this conversation they did their job and did it on par, so what can you honestly expect from them?

so it's really a situation where neither one of you guys is going to come out feeling good about this, either enginehuase eats the time and labour for removal and install or john does, and let me say this, i get john being pissed as well if enginehuase would have done their job right in the first place there would be no issue and john would be on here singing the glory of his new engine, and those of us with 250k on their blocks would be considering this new guy up in gig harbour for our rebuild...myself included...

the right thing to do here is both of you guys (john and enginehuase) eat it, split the difference of the install and warranty it.....
i know that's not going to make either one of you happy, but it's really the fair thing to do for both of you, at least the way i see it.

john, learn your lesson about warranties and 3rd party installers all together,
he needs to protect himself thus the warranties on installs...always get the shop who made your engine to install it if the warranty states such a thing, as otherwise this happens and you could be liable to pay for it twice...you'd be worse of is the installer was the one that fubar'd it, you'd be out an engine instead of the install!

enginehuase- mic your surfaces for flatness before you assemble and ship engines out...this is not good for your reputation regardless of what happens here....you also have to understand he is upset because he is out alot of money because you failed to machine or assemble a engine correctly not because of anything he's done...you would be upset as well if this happened with you in your life....

yes, i do understand the difference between who's liable for what, and what is right/fair ... i just hope the pair of you can see it as well.

all of that aside, please do not post the address's of individuals on the internet, company's are ok but a customer or individual is not, who knows who is reading this and who might come knocking on his door, how would you feel if your home address was posted on the internet? i don't think this was a malicious thing you did here, i think you just don't know better, the forum may seem small and comfortable, but it is still part of the internet and any psycho, crazies, or ex-wife can view this and show up to johns house, not cool!!!!

please don't hate me for this post...............

theizzardking,

I thank you for your post.

All of our machine work is top notch, complete with all proper machining, measuring and assembly.
It is not even known for sure (from myself) if it is the head gaskets, as it might be a cracked cylinder head, who knows.. fact of the matter is, thats what the warranty is for.

I offered to exchange the engine whole if the heads were not repairable, i.e. cracked, over warped, ect.
John agreed to remove the engine himself when I met him at his residence.

And you are right, I did remove Johns address.

Thank you -Gig Harbor Enginehaus, LLC

izzardking, the part number is 787-018, its a 3/8" hose fitting.

f'ing awesome man! i got a leak on my rear seal so figure doing this mod might help the rear diff when driving through all of the slush this winter, i'm off to the UK again in a few weeks so wont be around to fix the seal and need it to be good for the winter.
thanks a ton!

I kind of argee with you izz.. I did learn my lesson with 3rd party installers, but I still feel that the labor shouldnt be the issue here. If the engine didn't overheat what else could cause the engine to either crack/warp the block or blow a head gasket? If it is for sure the head gasket what else would make it blow besides the machining? remember the head gasket was already installed on the engine when it was delivered to be put in the truck. I understand he does need to protect himself from fubar installers. But if he knew that I didn't have a copy of the warranty or my invoice then how am I suppose to know exactly what it says and how to abide by it? If I would have known that the labor wouldn't have been covered for later problems then I would have paid to have the engine installed by enginehaus.

The only reason I went to enginhaus and used his engine was because of his warranty. Or else I would have saved the money and went down to NW team yota or Toy only swaps (where I already had an engine lined up).

Kid: thanks for watching my back..

Enginehaus: thanks for removing the entire address.

Yeah the previous tenant ran a custom chopper shop out of the garage.. I still get his mail sometimes.

oh no doubt they didn't do a great job putting the engine together otherwise we wouldn't even be talking about this, and basically unless you ran the motor with no oil or no water pump there is no way it should be warped at this point, and so really, they either machined it wrong which is most likely, or they were using either defective or sub standard parts and/or block to begin with, obviously it didn't warp or crack from being ran, other wise the heat tabs should have shown signs of failure or near failure at the least, as those would most likely go if there was enough heat to crack or warp anything enough to cause your head gasket issues, the very reason why the builder installs them in the first place....

like i said there's a difference between who's liable for what and what the right thing to do here is , i get that builders make mistakes, life happens, as with anybody that produces anything your never going to have a 100% success rate, the key factors are the number of failures and how you handle the ones that are brought to your attention...i see this now as a question of how far the builder is willing to go to stand behind his product, is he going to take the easy way out and make the customer eat the total loss by hiding behind clauses in the warranty or is the builder willing to take at least some of the responsibility here and do what he can to keep his costumer happy and get him back out on the road......how much is shop time worth vs the potential costumers and reputation gained by doing whats right?
this thread alone has been views 2,082 times not to mention the clubs and other forums the members here visit, it's a small world on the toyota forums, you get a bad name on one or two for them your done for on most of the all together...this is not a threat or anything of that sort just trying to make you aware of the situation. the others here also post on ih8mud,yotatech,toyotanation,torra ect ect.......

this isn't meant to be a flame or anything of that sort, i see it as just being the fact of the matter, the builder screwed up somewhere and cost john the money of an install, john screwed up by not reading the fine print (which i guess he didn't have but probably should have been told or asked if there was any stipulations on it from the start)

so far what i'm seeing here is the builder is doing nothing more then he is legally obligated to, and honestly i can't say i look favorably upon such a thing. like i've stated 3 times there's a big difference between what is right and what is legally obligated to.

the builder would be out shop time for the complete removal and install anyways if the john had gone through them originally, and since the install was good and the problem was the block or assembly to begin with i would expect a little more then just "sorry here's one that works on your way now".....

Well put again. I pretty much agree with this 100%. True, you do have to cover your back as a business, but there is an ethical right thing to do here. If you stand behind your product, then your product shouldn't fail. If in the cases that it does, do what you can to fix the situation. Even if it means going a little above and beyond. I think that it's pretty clear that the problem lied within the engine and not in the install. Izz is right, if Enginhaus had done the labor, they would be doing the repair anyways.

And just noticed your message about the part. I was gonna send you a message telling you to get a hold of JTM or The Kid as I left the receipt with the part number with them. Looks like you got it covered.

It doesn't notify me when I have a profile message, only when I have a private message. Do you get a notification?

And you being an a-hole is common knowledge. Doesn't change anything. :moon:

I agree 100%.. if for some reason he did take care of the labor and then we found out it was my fault that the engine was bad, I would suck it up and pay for the fix.. if it was partially my fault I would pay partial. Customer service can ruin a business esp when the customer has a huge network of people interested in that businesses product.

I would side with The Enginhaus more if you had say gone there with engine troubles, determined you would buy one from them and then decided to have the labor done elsewhere for whatever reason. But you had your vehicle at a shop with the engine already pulled. I don't think too many people would have it then towed it away from a fully capable shop to have it installed someplace else.

Enginehaus: thanks for removing the entire address.

jmt2404,
I didn't "know that you didn't have your your original invoice" until you requested a copy of it on Oct. 29th at 11:25am.
I informed you that I would be glad to provide you a copy, but that it may be difficult to find without the original invoice#. I plan on continuing my search again.

And you are correct, cylinder heads shouldn't "crack/warp the block or blow a head gasket" without something causing it to do so.

Perhaps it was caused from the failure and success with your custom cooling system that you had worked on for some time in August of this year, as you posted a thread about it yourself, particularly your post #14 (stop leak that you added, before the new engine, that may be clogging the cooling system)
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/95399-almost-overheated-electric-fans.html

But as the heat tab didn't melt, you were still covered under warranty.

I am sorry that you were not aware of what the warranty did or did not cover, as you supposedly never received your original copy of the invoice, with the written warranty, from Automotive Specialists, where you had the engine R/R completed, perhaps you should take that up with them.

Also on the written warranty, it clearly specifies that you must keep all your proper maintenance records and the original invoice. I am already curbing these 2 rules.

Another thing to note, there was no confirmation, from my side, of what exactly is wrong with your engine, I only took your word for it. I/we don't know if it is "blown head gaskets, warped heads, cracked heads, ect" unless you have an update after pulling the engine and removing the heads for a clear inspection?

Is it the "builders mistake" on this particular build? or the customers mistake from trail and error while building a custom cooling system? We may never know, but one thing that I stand by is the warranties that I grant and that I stand strongly behind them.

jmt2404- I am sorry that I posted your address, I shouldn't have done that.

theizzardking,

As I mentioned above, with clear evidence posted in the link & pictures provided (incase jmt2404 attempts to delete his old posts), I/we may never know who may be at fault. But I stand strong behind my written warranties and with the heat tab not melted, jtm2420's warranty is still valid, no matter what caused the "unconfirmed warped/cracked heads, blown head gaskets, ect".

Haus, (that is what I am going to call you)

I was too busy organizing my vinyl album collection to read all this gibberish, but something just jumped off of this page to me.

You know which month he purchased your services, how hard could it be to find the records? Don't flatter yourself, there cannot be that many files to look through, especially with any sort of organization. You silly little man, why would YOU they guy with the warranty not keep a copy? Anyone could just type one up and call it yours...?
