Is this issue consistent with both v8 engine configurations? Pre-05s included? I've never seen anyone buy the kit for a pre-VVTI
No you and I, which mine is a 2004 are safe from this issue :reddance:, it's an issue only with the newer V8!!
The Bypass is for VVTI V8s. 05+
I have sent bypasses to a few people with newer(08+) V8s and they have reported no problems. I think the initial concern from this was from the Hewitt Tech design(which it appears he has fixed now according to website).
The tundra update causes the aip system to run for a full second at every engine shutdown with will make the bypass ineffective. Not sure if the 4runner update does the same though. If you're not having any issues with the ecu, why bother to update it?
I have a 2005 V8 with almost 140,000 miles. I'm thinking I should do the bypass kit proactively. I think I saw a write-up with pics on this thread but does it take ~6 hours. If so, it will probably take me 8-10, which is daunting in the sense that I'll forget what came off in which order and at the end, I may end up with some extra bolts. :biggrin2:
For those who have done this, was it pretty easy?
EDIT: I am not too mechanically experienced so pardon the dumb question- why not replace the faulty pump itself? Is that too complex or expensive?
