Secondary Air Injection Pump Failure on V8's! Important!

are there any videos with a step by step process of Sly's kit install? It seems everyone is having an easy time installing, but every time I look at the directions I start getting lost. just want to make sure I am doing it right.

Took me about 30 minutes to install the kit using the easy to follow instructions that came with it. Slyfox responded promptly via email with a few questions I had. I am somewhat handy but in a do it yourselfer way.

I got one of his bypasses and i'm confused too.

Seemed straightforward to me. You remove the fuse box cover in the engine bay next to the battery, put the provided relay in the blank space next to the purple relay you pull, twist the wire from the provided relay, insert into the slot shown in the pictures, replace the purple relay.

Run the other relay wire out of the opening in the fuse box, route it to the other side of the engine. Remove the tape covering the wire bundle from the airbox, make sure you have enough slack, cut the wire.

Very carefully (as pointed out in the instructions) strip the wire at both ends. This may be the touchiest part of the job, you don't want to cut any of the wire strands on that teeny wire. Carefully use a razor blade as said above to cut the insulation then your fingernails to pull the insulation off will work fine.

Make the connections with the provided splicer tubes. Secure the provided relay in the fuse box with the Velcro tabs, tiewrap and electrical tape finishes the job. Zip-bam-boom, quite easy.

Fellas......you got my number and email.
CALL A BROTHER!:) Might wanna text first as I get a lot of BS calls about winning cruises, lotteries, etc. I can walk you through it over phone pretty quick from start to finish or answer any question you might have.

I think I posted this already but I'll repeat - This is so easy to follow with the directions provided even a guy with a fear of wiring can do it! Yes, that's me and I had it done in 15 minutes.

My mother's '05 GX had this issue a year or so ago at around 130,000 miles.

I recently acquired an 06 V8 SR5 and hope I am not faced with this dilemma.

Well, I got it installed this afternoon. Looking back, definitely easier than I made it out to be. I texted Sly throughout the process and he was a huge help. Even sent me a video of the part I was having trouble with! Thanks again Sly.

Also ordering a kit. I've noticed my pump is noticeably loud in the mornings, and this seems to coincide with the noise the GX's made just before it failed.

Can anyone post what to expect to be sure that the installation was a success? I would assume that if the install was a success, we would no longer hear the AIP on first start?

So no CEL and no AIP in the morning = Correctly Installed?

Chatted with Rutech on their bypass. Asked them if the blocking plates were necessary if I was only installing the bypass and the system hadn't failed yet. Rutech said the plates are still necessary as gasses will circulate back into the engine without them... if the valves haven't frozen open, how is that possible? Are they saying this just to cover their butts?

Seems that if system is still operational, simply disabling the pump via the bypass module should be all that is necesary.

Any credence to Rutech's claim?

False claim.
Your truck has pressure sensors that sense the pressure differential if the exhaust gases come back passed the valves. These sensors work even with a bypass installed(mine anyway). When they sense this pressure you get limp mode. Your trucks valves stay closed 99.99% of its life.
The bypasses are fine if you have normal or stuck closed valves. If you have stuck open you need plates.
The computer is smart.....it will tell you if it sees exhaust gas.

Hi All,
Just wondering can anyone tell me how many wires will need to be spliced with the slyfox bypass module? Also does it come with the starter relay wire?

Thanks!

I got the same response from Rutech also. I was going to spend the extra money and get his plug and play kit, but decided not to since I didn't want to mess with the plates and slyfoxes bypass was much cheaper. I did this as preventative maintenance so didn't want to do the plates if not necessary. I installed slyfoxes kit a few weeks ago. It was easy to install and no issues. I'm glad I went this route.

One wire.
Pin 4 coming off your Hitachi MAF(look at your MAF....the numbers are right under the word "Hitachi")......it's Black/Yellow wire on 4Runner.
Cut it.....use connectors I send you to "re-complete" the circuit with the relay I send. Literally takes 10 mins, 4 pages of instructions included that include pictures, diagrams and very detailed text.
I send you zip ties to keep the wire secure so you can route it back along the firewall.
No Special tools needed.
I recommend you wrap the wire loom back up with black electrical tape when done.

My kit is apparently sitting in my mailbox. I hope to get it installed on Sat sometime. One less thing to worry about. Thanks SlyFox.

Next thing...figuring out the transmission drain/fill.

Class Action Lawsuit?

I'm on the internet this morning doing some research into how to sue Toyota over this issue. If anyone has already gone down this road or is interested in joining me, please email me at [email protected]
