selling my motorcycle to help with my runner build

Don't sell it, your wife may never let you get a bike again now that you have kids, but if you never sell it you won't have to worry about not having a bike, but I'm sure you can accumulate the $2k you would make off of the bike over the next year for your 4runner.

Just saying...

Sell the bike and start a college fund for your kid. Get your priorities straight. Sacrifices will have to be made unless you are super wealthy. It was hard for me to give up my toys when my son was born back in 1986 but he graduated college with a mechanical engineering degree and has a good job now. Now I can get back to my toys. Do not get in the habit of living paycheck to paycheck. Save what you can, you will not regret it later.

It's a $2k bike, not a nice built $20k Harley, he can just not buy stuff for the 4Runner.

At one point you don't just keep giving it up, you have a life too, it can't all be about the kids, you have to have some fun, and a $2k bike seems reasonable way to do so. When you looking back on your life, you aren't gonna say to yourself "man i wish i sold that Honda i had to give my kid an extra $2k for college", what you will really say is "man i wish i never sold my bike, i never got to buy another one" .

just curious whats the reason behind building the 4runner?

Im a product designer and i love to design and build things. I especially like working with automotive and alternative transportation design. I love to build things, and have a past in custom automotive body work. I love the out doors and want to get more into light off-roading, I see it as a possible great family activity for us. I enjoy the seldom ride on my motorcycle but its mostly for commuting to work which is only a couple miles. My brother in law was also in a pretty bad motorcycle accident recently ( came close to amputating his leg ) and I have decided that i just don't want to take that risk any more. I was truly thinking about giving it up before my wife proposed the deal, it just helped. As for our finances, we are on a pretty good heading with saving for the future. We are pretty young, in fact I was born in 1986, and we are fairly debt free minus some small credit card amount and one car payment. Im looking forward to investing the funds from my motorcycle into a vehicle I plan on keeping for a very long time. I would imagine I would like a motorcycle some time in the future, but not for many years when my kids are old, thats a long time to save for a really nice bike, and if i never get another one its no big deal, its just a thing.

As I stated above my son was born in 1986 the same as you. It sounds like you have your head on pretty straight. I looked at the picture of your bike. I had never seen that model before. It has the same engine as the Honda CX500 I had years ago. I think mine was a 1980. It looked like this. Image Detail for - My 1979 Honda CX500 Custom picture by chellerides - Photobucket I was in the same situation back then as you are now. To many of my freinds were getting hurt or killed on motorcycles and when I got married I got rid of the bike. You are probably better off fixing up the 4runner than having the bike.

That's great to hear that your family is doing well! from one rider to another, i totally know how you feel, it's hard to have fun on a bike knowing so many people depend on you. Selling that bike should bring in some nice funds for the runner. what are you thinking of getting mod wise?
