Serious no power issue

Please help.

I am stuck in Mexico and my car has been towed to a service garage (Not a Toyota garage). I have 300,000 miles on my 1994 4 runner with the 3.4L engine. I had it in storage for 4 months and it had been running perfectly.

When I started my trip to Mexico I noticed a drop in power, at first a little then suddenly hardly any power whatsoever. It starts right up and idles perfectly. The garage replaced the fuel filter, the fuel pump and strainer, and removed all the injectors and had them cleaned. They went ahead and installed a new water pump and timing belt and reassembled everything.

NO CHANGE. iF the mechanic removes the air filter and places a rag full of gasoline at the intake point the engine gets good power. PLEASE HELP. WHAT COULD BE WRONG. SEND responses to [email protected]

THANKS

I know it says to reply to your Email, but first we need to know what kind of 4Runner you have. The 1994 4Runner didn't have a 3.4 V6 from the factory. Has that engine been swapped into your 4Runner, or does it have the 3.0 V6?

There are some significant differences between those engines, so knowing what you have exactly, will go a long way towards being able to help.
