No thanks. Not yet. I agree in that I'd want to see 2-3 years of good reliability reports first. If they shine in that time, I'll definitely buy one or two.

The only reason I buy Toyota is because they are proven to be the best. If American companies made things as good, I would buy American. It's embarrassing seeing these crappy American cars breaking down left and right. The truth of the matter is that Chrysler is a terrible company. They are bottom of the list out of American companies. Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, are usually the names to avoid. Someone i work with just sold her PT Cruiser because of the ridiculous repair bills with only just over 100,000 miles on it. She upgraded to a Corolla. My sister's RAV4 has 133,000 miles and not a single issue. Someone else I know had his power steering pump break in his 2006 Jeep Liberty, opened the hood to find stuff oozing out of his engine.

Amen. I hear you and I agree. We all work too hard for our money and we should want the best quality we can afford. No argument.

I'm just choosing to have a little faith that Jeep can become and stay a good solid vehicle over the long haul.

Chrysler??? American???? LOL! Fiat bought them out and fiat is Italian. Plus they make just about all of their vehicles in Mexico. Real American, alright!
 
My neighbor had a 2012 GC and has already gotten rid of it, he bought a 2010 4Runner trail. I asked him the problems on the GC, he said, from his mouth, electrical nightmares, engine sounded nasty at start up, has a slight knock (IT DIDNT EVEN HAVE ENOUGH MILES FOR THE FIRST OIL CHANGE! Chrysler calls it normal.) Plus many other problems. If you don't believe me don't, I know what happened.

Fiat? Really? Even better..... I'm Italian. Viva Italia!! Damn..... If I had known that, I definitely would have bought that truck yesterday.

And I love Mexican food!! I guess I'm destined for a Jeep.

BTW..... They're made in Detroit, champ. Right next to the plant that makes baseball, American flags, and apple pie.

Its just the Grand Cherokee, their high end SUV. They always tried to make it like that. I don't think this is true for other Jeeps. The new Wranglers engine seems very car oriented in the fact that it has much more horsepower than torque. And I'm still convinced the Compass is a joke....

Yeah they are still made in Detroit... from Mercedes & Fiat parts bin...

I look forward to Fiat's control on Chrysler... maybe for once in a bloody long time Chrysler will be a worthwhile company, not that I feel like buying one anytime soon.

JohnnyT do you have a V6 or V8 4R? I was in a brand new V6 JGC the other day and the drivetrain and it are a piece of ****. I don't care what is written about the pentacrap V6, the car didn't move at all.

I will never buy an American car again let alone one that is made here.

I do like the looks of the Jeep,but think about resale value of Chrysler products compared to Toyota.I have thought a time or two in the last few months about purchasing a new Explorer,just to go American made.A guy I work with bought a new Explorer when they came out,he gets 12 to 13 in town and 18 on the highway.A buddy drives a 2010 Grand Cherokee,he gets about the same mileage as the Ford.When I sold my Sequoia,my neighbor ,a Honda dealer,wholesaled me a Pilot,after 2 months,I couldn't stand to look at the damn thing.Do yourself a favor and rent one for a weekend,check out the gas mileage and quality,if it's good and you like it,buy one.

They say the Jeep wins but I disagree because of their reasoning. They almost make it seem like the Limited T4R would have been up there but they would lose some of the off-road capability. But wouldn't that mean you would be on par with the Jeep's ability? The T4R trail would blow the JGC away on the trails, but a T4R Limited would probably be a little better on the trails. Also look at the specs, the 4runner has a higher ground clearance, shorter wheelbase, more powerful engine, while the weight to hp ratio is higher on the 4runner, the 4runner was faster on the track. Anyone disagree?

My T4R has a v6. The JGC that I drove was the v8 Hemi. Had lots of power. They let me drive it solo so I kept it out for about 25 minutes and went around some hilly areas. The fit, finish, and build quality seemed top notch. But over the long term, who knows. That's the gamble.

I've always been very happy with the v6 in my T4R, but tHe JGC was quicker and is generally a more nimble truck. But like I said early on, they are built differently with different objectives. The JGC is trying to appeal to the growing crossover market..... One that wants a good ride and comfort but can also get you through some harsh conditions when needed. Nobody is going driving any boulders.

Didn't try the v6 in the JGC.

And never is a long time......

I'm with ya man. I hope Jeep can keep up the good work. The wrangler with the pentastar is a whole different truck. Finally got a decent engine in there. Yeah it isn't refined but a rubicon will out do anything a 4runner will. Yeah two solid axles ride a little rough on the road. The new Grand Cherokee is appealing to the older folks who buy them. They aren't taking it off road. and if they are it's a dirt road. The fully independent suspension is way better on road where these people will drive 99% of the time. I think it was a smart move for jeep. Leave the wrangler for the hardcore folks and make the luxury suv just that for old folks. I dunno time will tell and I love my 4runner but it is by far the best vehicle in the world that has ever been made like some of you guys make it out to be ;)

All I said in my original post is that the 2012 JGC was an impressive truck after driving it. Whether it is "better" than ANY other truck is purely a matter of personal taste and preference. If their ass feels better in one truck than another, then that truck us better to most people. If it comes in purple, then that makes it better to some people.

I'd be surprised if the JGC didn't hold up well over time given the detail in the cabin and under the hood that I saw. But I don't know that for sure.... Nobody does at this point. And past history means nothing.... This is a new truck with a new build and a new objective.

I admire everyone's passion for the older and newer T4R's but give a little credit to Jeep for hitting the mark on the build at least initially. Long term is yet to be determined.
