Shakey idle and acceleration

i bought my first 4runner (a 3.0L auto)back in may from some idiot kid who had never heard of maintenence or treating a car with respect so fourtuneatly i got her for a pretty good deal. but i noticed it had a shakey idle and acceleration so over the next few days i did alot of tune up work i.e. plugs, plug wires, belts, air filter, all fluids, o2 sensor, and maf cleaning. it made the car run way smoother but if you watch the tac when its at an idle or when im accelerating its not steady. it will drop slightly as it climbs. (i hope that made sense) so ive given it some thought and all i can think of is a fuel filter or catalitic coverter going bad. and im going in the right direction?

If you knew all that ahead of time .. why'd you buy it?

I have the same problem and I've literally tried everything. and to be honest sounds like it's a bad valve it's common with our cars.

Never heard of valves being an issue with the 3.0. But if you think that its the case, a compression or leak down test would tell you for sure.

Have you checked to make sure all of the vacuum lines are in the correct places and are not cracked or leaking. I have learned that these things are very sensitive to vacuum leaks and criss-crossing vacuum lines.

^ and that's an understatement.

I had a bad idle problem after replacing my power steering pump. I had broken the vacuum line for the pump (it ups the idle speed when you are turning your wheels. )
I plugged the vacuum line and its working ok now.


Btw. that tiny vacuum switch for the steering pump is $120 at dealer and junk yard I went had 4 4runners with 4 broken switches.
