Sharing my Yakima Skybox 16s cargo carrier observations

After researching a few threads here, I went with the suggested Yakima 16s, and factory cross bars (the cross bars were on my 2010 4Runner when I bought it.

Everything fit perfect. Plenty of clearance between the roof and the skybox clamps. No rubber needed, at least 3/8's of an inch (as you can see by the pictures below.)

Absolutely no issues with the fin, nor the hatch opening up all the way.

Very little vertical shimmy at 65 mph empty. Not sure what it will do with gear up there but I have confidence in the system. Seems very stout and solid.

I had to adjust my 8' automatic garage door to open fully (it was originally opening to about 7'2") but other than that it was painless.

Also, Yakima gives you back a rebate (for the Skybox 16, it was a $100 visa card) between now and I believe March 10th with purchase. So the bottom line was $339.00 with tax and shipping (Amazon). :reddance:

Thanks for the summary -- I've been trying to decide which roof box to get for a while. I was leaning towards a skybox already but this just convinced me! Now if I can just figure out how to transfer all the stickers from my old Thule box (that interferes with the spoiler pretty badly) to the Skybox I think I'll get w/ my REI dividend!

$339 is a great price. Too bad Amazon doesn't ship this box in Canada and Yakima Canada sells it for $629. Damn!
