I like the awnings a few members have been adding. I found this one - though a bit pricey is does give some coverage and ease of use.

Maybe Ill just sum up all the bit and pieces and go all out on the trailer. I look at a rooftop tent for the 4R, but this trailer is an all in one deal without taking load space on the ride.
Definitely on the short list!

The AT Team is putting out great stuff...you can find some decent bargains in the classified section of ExPo and Mud....

Paul May from Equipt just redid his Chaser at AT...lots of nice mods and now it matches his 4Runner

I too think that those are really cool and spendy. I really like how they staged the picture so that the shade isn't covering anything that it should. I'd go with Rhino Rack Awnings they are much cheaper and seem to be more secure or durable. But I really do like the looks and concept of the bat awning.

PS I'm glad you are doing a build thread. It's always good to see new or different ideas.

Ok, another project down. Plastidipped the wheels today. A little trial and error but they turned out pretty good.
I sprayed the rims down with diluted Simple Green, washed, wiped down with paper towels. I used DipUrCar.com's cleaning solution as a final go over before spraying. I dont know if that was necessary as I have had luck with just cleaning with Simple Green, but, cant hurt.
There are a couple flaws here and there but overall I am happy with the end result. I might try cleaning up the flaws with diluted paint thinner to smooth down area and then repainting (project for a later date/when necessary).
Here is the process from start to finish (ended up spraying five coats),

I wiped tires down with Armorall first (sprayed rag - wiped tires). I then cleaned rims one more time. The Plastidip peeled off tires- no problem.

You will have to email them direct. I did my own buy and then setup a group buy for assorted items from them. The process is a leap of faith, but I never had a problem and the items arrived quick and were quality.
I will say if you are just wanting the switch you may want to look elsewhere as the shipping will be not worth the $ for one item.

I have been searching for a little while looking at different solutions for powering the myriad of different power devices the family carries with them when we travel (cellphones, handheld gaming, ipods, etc.). I had wires running all over the place.
I had considered running a couple extra 12 volt outlets but decided what I really needed was more usb ports. The one and only USB is dedicated to the ipod which is velcro'd in the glove compartment. So a couple more USB's should (and did) do the trick.
So, I went searching. There were a couple posts/sites online of folks building their own USB's (no thanks). I finally found an a company by the name of "iSimple" that makes the USB I was looking for. One that was made as a car kit.
I thought of all the locations to install and settled on the on the back of the center console and the area above the "aux" plug under the stereo. The install went well. I think I will get a couple more of these and run them to the 3rd row seating area.
I posted a couple pics to show.

What did you tap into to power the USBs? I'm looking to do this exact same thing. Thanks in advance!

I tapped power from fuse panel and ran a wire to center console area.
If I had to do over again I would look for USB that handles higher amperage or install 12 volt outlets and plug in usb's adapters. That way an IPad, etc can be charged. Nevertheless, my setup works great for the needs and I use the factory 12volt outlet (w/ USB 2+ amp adapter) in console to charge higher drain devices.

Oh yes, I've been off the thread for quite some time. A job transfer/move has been occupying my time. Im now in Baton Rouge, LA.
I did install the Airlift 1000 before my move last March and the bags have been holding up quite well (install was pretty easy).
I swapped out the brakes at the same time - very, very easy to do.
I'm not sure what is next on my agenda, besides what I've posted. The 2010 is holding up quite well at 93k miles. I thought of getting a new vehicle, but all the mods have me holding on.
I am looking at selling my grey Factor 55 ProLink for an alternate model so that I can mount my front license plate..

I lifted with Bilstein 5100 Front Coilovers, 5100 ilstein rear, and used Toytec/Eibach front and rear coils.

Here is a very similar setup to what I used.
3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Front Coilovers FJ/4Runner

Install was $432.00 (not including parts). If I had to do over again I would have just done myself and saved the money.

Thank you - she's getting old but holding up nice. The color had to grow on me. I as looking for the third row some years ago and all that was available, at the time, was the red. No regrets - I really like the black and red mix.
