Well finally made my cover panel. Used 1/8" abs (all I could get locally here in Hawaii). Made tabs that secured it to the back of the stock trim brackets. Sorry forgot to take pics of the back side. Still need to mount the lower cover, just press fit on there for now, still a little loose.

Want to check for rattles and clean up the sub hole a bit. Then make a mount for the lower section.

Did you have to cut any of the trim panel to remove the inner shelf? Or does it just separate from the outer trim panel?

Just removed the pocket and outer trim. There are a couple tabs that you have to flush cut as well as 2 screw posts. Depending on sub and grill, it pushed out that center bar section about 1/2 inch
