Shift Lock

I just purchased a used 05 4x4 SR5 4R.

I noticed that the shift lock does not work and without even the key in the ignition or a foot on the brake I can shift into any gear. Everything operates great other than this.

Anyone ever run into this problem before? My search turned up the opposite problem of the shift lock keeping people from going into park as the popular issue.

Thanks!

Yeah, right next to the shifter, on the left side (in Park), there is a small square access cover. It's is the shift lock cover. It has an indent hole on one side - put a small screwdriver in the slot and carefully pry/pop it up. With the cover removed, one is able to depress the plunger and move the shifter out of Park (without pressing on the brake and the ignition unlocked).

Push the plunger down and see if it returns. Do it a few times and see if it fixes the problem.

Other than the plunger being depressed, I don't know if there's a switch under the plunger or what.

Ya, I pulled that and the button is there but whether it is depressed or not you can do whatever you want with the shifter.

I checked all the fuses, none seemed blown out.

Doesn't sound like this is a common problem. It doesn't seem to be a huge issue.
