Shifter Help

Hey guys, I'm looking to repair and or replace pretty much everything plastic on my 89 4Runner. It's an automatic and the shifter does not seem to want to come apart. I can't tell if there is some hidden way of removing this piece, but the wiring inside the shifter seems to be soldered where it connects to the OD switch, and it runs through the shifter and into a harness. The only way I can see to get this apart is to cut the wires. I'm trying to get the plastic that surrounds the shifters out of here, but i don't want to cut wires and repair them. Especially ones that are this short. Am I missing something? Anyone been here before?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'll try to post some pics, but I'm a noob, so we'll see how that goes.

I need to get nto the shifter on my 89 also, to find the source of some slop in it. I'll probably just cut the wire and splice it back together if I can't find another way. But knowing Toyota there's probably an easier way you haven't found yet, like a disconnect somewhere.
