Ok so I have a 99 limited as I was driving tonight thru the mountains I noticed that my rig was not down shifting. I could stomp on the peddle and it would barely go but no downshifting. Linkage? Anyone have these problems? Thanks for the help....

Shot in the dark because this is not my area of expertise, but maybe check the throttle and kickdown cables (circled in red below) to make sure they are not loose or broken.
yeah its like it would go slow with no gear change and about 50mph shift into od but it wouldnt downshift to kick it down a gear to get up the mountain. then it would get slower and slower.
Is your check engine light coming on ? My 99 started to do that then threw out a faulty TPS code. Put an ohm meter to it and it was still in spec but a friend had an extra TPS so I put it in to test it. Still threw out the code so I put my old one back in and after my next fill up, no check engine light and went back to shifting just fine.
thats not a kick down cable. its a pressure cable. If you dont believe me pull it out and ziptie it or something and put it in gear like a cheep shift kit
The A340 transmission thats in the 4Runner is electronically controlled by the engines ECU. It uses the throttle position sensor and the speed to calculate what gear to put it in. So as said above Check Engine Light would go off if there was something wrong detected. If ya really need to you can always down shift by hand.
