Do i need a boot cover on the adj 5100 that I just got, I ve been looking around and see some with the boot and some with out, what's the deal?

I would say a lot depends on the environment they are going to see, but a boot is never a bad idea.

Well, sometimes it is. Depends on whether you offroad seriously or not - the boot will typically just collect crap and hold it. I don't use em as I can easily inspect the shock shafts when they aren't covered and the debris / crap tossed up on them can be washed off easy.
Some salt and rocks can pit the shafts but it's pretty minimal over the life of the shock as long as you try to to keep em clean. The wiper seal cleans off a lot as it compresses, but of course, can't clear out the crap caught at the bottom of the boot.

I can see what your saying, but if a boot is holding stuff in then it can't be attached that well to start with, if the boot has a good seal, it should help keep contaminants out.

Check your boots, guaranteed they have drainage holes at the bottom.
