Shocks

Hey out there! My 06 4Runner is coming up on 61000 fun and fast miles and was wondering what kind of shocks I should get. My SUV is a 2wd but I race it and go mudding in it. my right rear shock is slightly leaking. I was thinking I might end up getting Bilsteins. my friends 92 yukon has ranchos and they feel good. Also I wanna keep it factory ride height.

Does it have XREAS? If so you'll have to all 4 at once. I'd check the FJC boards for low mileage FJ Cruiser takeoffs.

Thankfully I dont. I have an SR5 that will soon look like a sport ed but with the SR5 logos on the doors. I have heard a lot of problems with Xreas as they weren't meant to off road.

That makes it easier... Bilstiens are a popular choice and a little more sporty than OE. A good, OE grade, replacement is the KYB GR2. A few people have them on 3rd and 4th gens and they seem happy. Shockwarehouse.com and others have them at a reasonable price.

Xreas can be replaced at any point in the system . When this system was new it was to the modding world here it was thought that you could not touch it or the whole system had to be replaced. Not true , I pulled my XREAS out and dismantled it pc by pc and there are valves all over so individual components can be replaced.


Anyway I would go Bilsteins

I'll most likely go with Bilsteins due to they add handling and I believe they have a life time warranty or a really long one. I might as well change all the bushings to ploy rather than having the rubber ones. just as soon as a manufacture offers them. Thanks 4 the advice!!:hatsoff:

King bolt in shocks can be re valved easily. right outta the box they're well tuned. pricey though.

Does anyone have any input on TRD FJ Cruiser shocks? They do appear to be more expensive than Bilstein's. Are they wort it?

And, to confirm, any shock made for a stock FJC will bolt right onto a 4th gen T4R?

Yeah it's a bolt on system from what I have read. it's also supposed to give you a tiny lift. I couldn't tell you if there worth it or not. I like the Bilsteins though. CJ3flyer has them http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/37762-front-fjcruiser-springs-installed.html#post318019
