Shopping for '08 4x4 V8: how much under msrp should I pay? also limited vs. sport

Hello,

My first post on the board. I just sold my lifted F250 4x4 powerstroke- it was too big to get downtown, fit in garages, or for my wife to drive.

We're now looking at a V8 4x4 4runner. This will be our 3rd vehicle for occasional use and also to pull my 5000lb boat. We both have small commuters (civic hybrid for her, mazda mx5 for me)

First off- how much under MSRP is a good deal in this market? I'm seeing loaded limiteds with nav/moonroof with asking internet prices of $36k when msrp is $43k. Is that a good deal?

The next big question is limited vs sport. Personally, I don't care if I have leather seats. I want the nav for the backup camera. The only feature I'd really like to have in the limited is the memory seats so my wife and I don't have to readjust everything (does the memory do the mirrors too?). Any advice?

Pretty much everything on the SE is on the Limited and some. The most notable X-REAS is optional on the Limited, standard on SE. The one thing not available on the Limited is the hood scoop.

The memory seat is seat position only. It doesn't retain mirror settings.

Since you tow, the Rear Air Suspension with X-REAS might be worth considering. IIRC, you can lower the 4Runner's butt by 1" and raise it by 2" from normal ride height.

save some $. get the sport. add nav and camera after market. cloth seats. XREAS standard.

we were shopping last weekend (ended up buying an 08 Sport Edition V6), and saw several going for around $28-29k brand new for '08 V8 SportEdition 4x4. The dealers in this area can't GIVE them away (or anything with a v8, for that matter). The dealer we bought at offered us a V8 for $500 more than the V6 we bought, similarly-equipped. We don't need a V8 and wanted the few extra mpg so we got the V6 (and it is for my wife, so she veto'd the v8 that I would have preferred).

You should be able to find them for over $30k. Look up on cars.com for "internet specials" - they usually post their near-lowest price on those listings.

Invoice is about $4,500 below MSRP on a Limited. I think we're below invoice on SUV's now, so I'd shoot for $5,000 below MSRP before any rebates or other incentives. Those quotes you've got probably include cash-back rebate offers in order to get to $7,000 below MSRP.

Here in MD one dealership has several 08 Sports priced at 26400,best price in the hundred mile search I've done. As gas costs stays high and the year wears on toward the 09 models, no telling where the prices will end up!

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely look at the SE's now. How about that nav- Is it worth the money or should I just throw in a Kenwood with built in garmin nav and add a backup camera? (About $2k with xm and ipod stuff).

Since the memory seats are just position- it's not worth it for me. Now if it set all the mirrors and climate control- that would be cool.

I got 2300 under invoice 6 months ago.
You settle for no less than 3K UNDER Invoice.

I've found two local dealers with what they call "non-negotiable internet only price" features on their inventory list.

Dealer 1 has three titanium silver '08 4x4 V8 SE's for $29k

Dealer 2 has the same for $28k, but I don't think it had a sunroof.

Those seem like good prices to me- Kelly blue book shows invoice for the same truck as $31,295.

Wow, you guys are lucky. Up here in Canada, Toyota has a no negotiation policy. You have to pay what the sticker says. You can only negotiate on 07 models (or 08 models for stuff like Matrix and Carolla where the 09's are already out). We looked at 07 V8 Sport and the price is $41K. If it were the same prices up here as it is down there, I'd jump in one right now and just live with driving an automatic until I can get a second car in the family.
