Shopping for an 01' Lift

So I've been looking at lift options for the truck I just bought. I think I've decided that the lift springs from OME seem like the way to go for me. I'm leaning towards the 881/890 combination. The truck has 222k on it so I'm thinking I should replace the shocks as well? Or is it possible that I could get away without doing that now and maybe doing it sometime down the road if it becomes necessary? The picture shows how it currently sits on 265/70/16s, any advice is greatly appreciated!

Just installed trd coils and 906's with bilstein 5100's and I wouldn't want to do it twice, so I'd replace the shocks while you're in there. Also I'm pretty sure stock shocks are not going to fit with those springs.

Honestly you'll want to replace it all together. Again you don't wanna do the same work twice. Plus the 890 rears are taller than stock and if you off road your shock will max out before your spring and it could break your shock (speaking from experience)
Do it once and do it right. Here's my set up

You might read some of the reviews on the OME shocks and coils before pulling the trigger. Their shocks are pretty basic and old technology, and there's many better options out there.

I agree with Absalom. I had the OME setup originally from Toytec and found the Sonoran Steel rear end to be far superior for the overlanding and trail running we do with ours.

The rear travel on that is brutal. Mine doesn't go that low. It's not gangsta enough

To be fair, OME is made to drive your truck thousands of miles with a lot of gear over the Australian desert. They make a great product, I have their lift on mine. I just don't haul enough stuff to make it comfortable. It still flexes great for the IFS it has and stock 3 link in the rear. I've taken it up many things people with solid axle rigs were basically HOPING I'd flop on lol.

I am seeing the limitations though, and its not just the lift. It's the IFS in general. I am about to graduate!

^^What he said. I don't haul enough around to get the Ome shocks. I have 881s and 890s on Bilstein 5100s all around. Front is on the 2nd perch. Love the setup. I've always liked Bilstein so I went with them. I don't regret it. Here's a pic to show you what it looks like. I'm on 265/75/16 though.

I like this but the front end sits a little higher than I thought it would. I just really want to achieve the right stance. I don't plan on wheeling it hard or loading it down with a bunch of overland gear very often it will serve as my daily driver and I'm honestly more worried about getting it to sit right and look how I want it to. My 2nd gen always sat just right and I loved it. I ran 32s on it and everyone assumed it was lifted when it wasn't. So with this I just want it to sit a little taller and make room for a bigger tire but also improve the suspension while I'm at it.

Yes I agree 100%. It is on the 2nd perch in the front. Believe it or not it is still about 1/4 inch taller in the rear. But 3rd Gens need rake to even look level. I had a 3/4 inch rake when it was first installed. And now that the rear has settled quite a bit I will either be dropping it down to the bottom perch in the front or be doing lc coils in the rear to raise it a little bit. More than likely just dropping the front. Because I do like the ride of the omes. Especially when loaded. I would like maybe an inch of rake. I think I could achieve that on the bottom perch.

its safe to assume that you are looking for about 2-3" of lift with that OME combo, and speaking from experience, unless your rig is loaded down with a lot of extra weight, I wouldn't go the OME route...I had 880/906 combo with the "comfort" 60073 shocks and it was anything but comfort! in fact it was annoying and bone jarring to the point I had to switch out to my current setup...but keep in mind I also didn't have any extra weight though so that is a huge factor...
I reccomend looking at Absaloms lift ideas here http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/197591-absaloms-cookie-cutter-4runner-builds.html
if you're goal is 2-3" of lift get 99 talls all the way around with bilstein 4runner shocks or OEM shocks all around and 1/2-1" body lift, OR you could do all suspension lift no body lift and get TRD Tundra front coils or even Toytec 3" coils in the front, and in the rear look at some used LC 7 wrap coils or superflex coils paired with OEM LC shocks or Bilstein 5100 shocks...
keep in mind if you go more than 2" of lift your stock tires will look small (trust me i had a 3"-4" lift with 265/75s and it irked me!
and always keep in mind any existing issues you may have with other suspension components, adding a lift will likely only exacerbate those issues...if youre going over 2" of lift you should get a differential drop and start to keep a close eye on the CVs and LBJs, but dont watch your MPG cause you will only get upset!

Sonoran 1.2 Suspension

I just replaced my whole suspension with the Sonoran Steel 1.2 Kit.

Don't listen to this guy, he still has his running boards on.

Just kidding. Truck looks awesome.

The Sonoran Steel lifts are awesome. He has put a lot of R and D into them. Probably the best complete lifts you can buy for our 4Runners.

I would have gone with same lift, but I can't afford it.

With you on that OME. I have the 60073 shocks in rear as well... Not soft whatsoever lol. They bounce you around like a riding lawn mower. But I drove over some wash board style dirt road and I did it about 20 and didn't even notice. When I slowed down because the Mazda 6 in front of me decided to go really slow that's when I bounced around like crazy. They do dampen but you need to work them.

It sounds like I'll have to make my own decision haha. I can't imagine the OME setup could be THAT stuff but by the sounds of it I must be wrong. I'll have to look into other options, the Tundra/LC combo doesn't seem like a bad combo it just might be a pain to track the parts down

Other than a little stiff I don't mind my OME set up. Some may call it old technology but then again look at our motors... They still work perfecto.
