Why would they be so bad on gas ?

Well, you're talking a larger size, more aggressive tread, stiffer compound, true severe weather rated tire, a "real" M+S tire, and they are a heavier tire as well.

It all changes how things work and how much more effort the engine has to put into pushing the truck.

I put 265/70's on my truck 50 miles after I bought it , so maybe I wouldn't notice a difference .

Getting the P rated, it's the cheapest and I'm not going to do any hardcore off-roading. Plus couple of guys off-road fine with P rate SA's. I'm getting 265/70/17 as soon as I save up some money ($800+ is alot!).

With what they say about the design of these tires I too think "P" are fine for off roading. They are supposed to be pretty tough .

If you think the SAs are a lot, price out a set of 5 BF Goodrich All lTerrains - you are looking at over $200 a tire.

I know I've had many , many sets of BFG AT's over the years and they are expensive ( damn tough tire though and never let me down ). I already have a new Revos spare in there ( 265/70/17 ) so I'll just leave that there and should only need to buy 4 tires.

I'm wondering the same thing as well. I had my heart set on Revos, but after reading through basically every tire thread on this forum, too many people have complained about how they perform in the snow, and snow performance is important to me. This left me looking at the BFG T/A KOs and the Silent Armors. I canceled out the BFGs because from what everyone says, they will rub. So alas, the Silent Armors will be my choice (99% sure at the moment).

Well, my stock size is 265/65/17 and both the Silent Armors and the BFGs come in 265/70/17, as I'm sure you are aware of already. After reading and reading, people have said that by upsizing to the BFGs, the tires will rub at a full lock of the wheel. I definitely want to avoid this. I ASSUME the Silent Armors will not rub because from reading the threads from people that have the tires in 265/70/17, they have not said anything about rubbing while the BFG folks have said they have experienced rubbing. I am just guessing that the BFGs rub and the Silent Armors do not because the tread on the BFGs is more aggressive. Let me know what you come up with Falls. These two choices are great in my opinion.

I upsized my tires to 70's on day 1 . I have Revos , never had an issue of rubbing . This is a popular mod , I think I've only heard of 1 or 2 having an issue.

I agree. I have not heard of anyone complaining of rubbing with Revos in the 265/70/17 size. I really have only heard of rubbing issues with the BFGs in that size. From what I have read, no one has complained of rubbing with the Silent Armors yet.

I am not sure about Goodyear SA, but BFG AT Ko tires tend to be bigger than other tires despite what the specs says.

The rubbing on the BFGs comes from (most likely) the side lugs being a bit angled and more straight than the GYs. Not a major issue, but rubbing none the less when you have the steering at full lock to one side or the other.

Thanks for the write-up CannondaleMan. I would love to get the BFGs, but I can't really justify the purchase since I don't do that much offroading. The Silent Armors will probably be my choice of tires since they don't rub and they are pretty good offroad and in the snow.

Not a problem dude, just remember that the mileage will drop a bit, but these will be fantastic tires for you. Especially with the snow storms you can get out there.

I'm cool with dealing with the mileage drop. I would much rather have better tires and sacrifice a little gas mileage than not. I will probably be getting them sometime in late 2008. My stock Bridgestones have about 24K on them so I will probably push them to around 30K and then get the Silent Armors.

I'm on 50+k with my Dunflop. It feels like bobsleding in snowy days.
