Bottom line up front: I sold my 2000 4Runner Limited E-Locker back in 2010, the new owner has sent me an email giving me dibs before she sells it to someone else. Should I buy it back?
I bought the truck in 2008 for $9800 from the second owner and it came from Chicago. It's a 2000 Limited 4x4 and at the time it had 115k on the clock. It was all stock and from the pictures, it was in really good shape. Turns out the rust underneath was a little more than I hoped for. I had it shipped to Florida and the first thing I did was POR-15 the entire chassis which took a few weekends and a few weeks of me scrubbing the paint off my skin. I put all new 99 Tall Spring Suspension and Trek Master shocks with all new end links and bushings. Also I put a new timing belt, water pump, idler pulley, new belts and all new OEM brakes. The truck was super tight and drove like a dream, no issues.
I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 at the time and a girl I know back home asked if I'd sell it. Without really thinking it through I said yes and gave it to her for $8000. She has drove the truck a lot and hasn't had an issues and it currently has 211k on the clock. The leather seats are cracking and I'm sure it has a lot more dings and scratches now but it looks ok in the pictures. I'm sure it needs new brakes again and she said the tires are shot. She told me she'd sell it for $4800.
My question is should I go for it? I have a really nice 08 sitting in FL since I'm currently stationed in Japan for the next couple years. I feel like the truck is too nice to let go to someone else but maybe the 5 years apart have done more wear and tear than expected. I'm out of touch on the values of 3rd gens now, is this a good deal or should I just erase this one from my memory? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
