Should I pay 800 dollars for an e-locker?

I am slowly building an expedition rig. I watch c-list everyday. It has been over a year since I've seen an e-locker for sale within 500 miles of where I live. I found one at a local yard but their prices are based on insurance market value. Example, when I asked about a 5spd with everything for a conversion from automatic, they quoted me $2200! I bought a replacement automatic from them for 300.
Back to the e-locker, the same truck has one. The quote was either 8 or 850. Talk about sticker shock. Having only delt with these trucks for a little more than a year what I have seen is a price range of 4 to 600. I passed on one last year that was on a rolling " rust free" frame. It was listed for over 2 months.
I just don't know. The wife ok'ed taking the money out of savings, but with my luck another one would come up cheaper next week. Or I will pass on this one and not see another one for six month's and it will be $1200 and rusty.
Everyone's opinion is welcome.

yes, you're paying a small premium to have it now, and put it out of your mind.

Too much, if you pay then that means the market value is increasing and we all have to pay more. Bargain and barter $650 drum to drum w/ everything can still be found. Look too for a hashed ltd w/locker buy whole, take what you need, sling th rest. Good luck

i paid about $700 all said and done. drum 2 drum axel, OEM harness from tacoma, RR button and computer.....

I'm leaning. Thanks guy's. I hope we get more opinions to get a feel for today's market. Just for the record I am passing up an opportunity to buy a complete 5spd conversion setup for $600. For an expedition rig the e-locker makes sence. With my supercharger the 5spd would be more fun.

For that price you're in the neighborhood of the arb. No housing modification and it's a stronger locker. Also selectable. Just my $.02

Real, real tempting. I found a 99 auto with sport hood & e-locker that has "blown head gasket" for $2500. I already used my opportunity to blow one apart at the shop where I work. Last summer I bought a rolled 98 for $500. Took me almost 7 days to get everything I wanted. Not to mention I have two storage units full of parts that don't sell well in this area.
The wife keeps asking me if I want to visit a place where it's just like a hotel, and the people there would like to talk to me about my problems. Maybe they can help me! I just dunno.

I was in the same boat. Then one day I found complete axle and front matching clamshell for $500. Drove an hour and brought it home. I have maybe around $600 in mine with wiring, switch and all. It pays off to be patient some time.
