Should I sell my 2009 G37 for a 2001 4Runner

I'm trying to save some coin in the long run. I have a 2009 G37S Coupe that only has 32,000 miles on it and is probably worth about $20,000 (I know... I paid $50,000 for it!).

I used to have a 4Runner and really miss it. I found a 2001 4Runner with 110,000 miles on it and the owner wants $8,000 for it. Do you think this is worth it? Or will I end up spending more on maintenance on the 4Runner in the long run?

if you do sell the g37 for 20k and buy the runner for 8k, theres no way the maintenance of a rig with 110k miles would go anywhere near 12k! i say go for it! but honestly shop around. 4runners can be had for way less! but im sure you will love going from a car to a nice SUV again

That's good to hear. And maybe I could get more than 20k for the G if I sell privately. I'll try to negotiate with the girl, but she told me she's already had 6 people contact her about it. :noidea:

Nah, don't need 4WD. I moved to LA. I love the color and the beige border around the bottom. And tan leather. I can't find too many with that combination and low miles.

She said she could do $7500. Timing belt has been replaced. She's not sure about the water pump.

If I were you, I'd take my time to find the perfect one. There is no rush, they pop up for sale ALL the time. No reason to pay more than you should for one. I rushed into mine, and got really lucky with maintenance. Just really wish I would have found one with better paint and a few other small things.

Hahaha good point! I'm just worried I'll pull the trigger on this one for $7500 and then in a week I'll see one with 90,000 miles and 4x4 for $6,000! Or it could be a while. I've been looking for a few months and haven't found one that looks as good as this one with so few miles.

At some point you gotta pull the trigger. For me, getting 4WD was a no brainer. For most things, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. The price difference is null, as well as the gas mileage...

If you're okay with 2WD, maybe this is the one for you!

If it makes you feel better I paid $8300 for a 99 highlander one owner, clean, etc, etc with 130,000 miles on it in 2011. I know I over paid but I had no choice at the time and needed a vehicle by then end of that day. I was actually going to go buy a 96 (I think) with SC and over 200K for something like $4500. I was living in the mountain/tourist town of Sedona, AZ and vehicles are expensive there.

Anyway, I say take your time and find one that you love and will hold good value in the future. Luckily in Cali you dont have to worry about the rust.

Personally I'd keep the g37 if its paid off. I don't see why you'd want to get into an older vehicle with more miles.

Personally I would not bother with a 2wd 4Runner. The beauty is the rugged reliability and the ability to go places. $10K for a "nice" SUV may be better invested.

If you are dead set on a 2wd 4R I believe you can find a better deal with a little shopping.

I for one intend on NEVER being without a 4x4!

After years of being a full size truck guy going to a Mini, I sold my insanely modified 220+ horsepower Cooper for a 139k mileage 4Runner. Couldn't be happier! I sold the mini for $9k, bought the 4R for $7k and have out a ton of work into the 4R. Still, I feel like I am ahead overall. I did smart stuff first. All fluids dumped and changed, timing belt, water pump, service ,Etc. Then fun stuff, wheels, tires, intake, stereo, etc.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my truck.

As an Infiniti tech, the G25/35/37's are really, for the most part, problem free. My 140k mile 97 4runner is also problem free. Coming from a Chevy/high performance background, I'll tell you I can't believe how well Japanese cars are engineered and built. While it's a downgrade to get rid of the G, I don't think an older 4runner will be any less reliable though.

Are you kidding? No way you will spend twelve grand on maintenance. I would be surprised if you even spent $3k in the long run. And having owned a handful of infiniti and toyota vehicles, I will say that toyota longevity and quality control is miles beyond nissan. Despite being newer and lower mileage, there is no doubt in my mind that the infiniti will cost more to keep running.

Whoever told you this is either lying or has zero sense and is trying to make their mechanic a millionaire. $12k on maintenance is putting your car out to pasture and buying two replacements.

You're looking in Utah, right? Eight grand for an '02 around here is pretty high - eight grand for a 2wd is nuckin' futs. That girl is high, and if she's had six serious buyers call her already then they're high too. Keep looking and you'll find a clean 3rd gen with 4WD for well under six thousand.
